If we didnot condemned this killing, then we would have to say that what ever Mumtaz Qadri did was right. Also then we would have to justify what Maulana Burqa is doing is correct and so are Talibaan. Killing is an extremist act and have no justification. This way every one comes up with their own justification to kill others.

The French police have identified the three perpetrators of the terrorist attack on the satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo". According to unconfirmed reports are regarded as Said Kouachi (34), Cherif Kouachi (32) and Hamyd Mourad (18). The first two are to be brothers and date from the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Both are known to the police according to the newspaper "Le point" should be only returned last summer from Syria war.

Who are the Charlie Hebdo attackers?

Masked gunmen killed 12 people in a brazen attack on the Paris offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Details are still emerging of who is behind the attack. Police have identified suspects as brothers Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, both French nationals in their early 30s, and 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad.



According to the account of one witness reported in the French media, one of the gunmen told onlookers in the street to "tell the media that this is al-Qaeda in Yemen" before launching the attack.

Security expert Claude Moniquet says the men involved in the shooting at French magazine Charlie Hebdo were well-trained and acted in cold blood.





Witnesses said the attackers shouted after the shootings: "We have avenged the prophet" and "Allahu Akbar [God is great]". One cartoonist at the magazine, Corinne Rey, was forced to let the attackers in at gunpoint and said they spoke perfect French and told her they were from al-Qaeda.





What is al-Qaeda in Yemen?
A few years ago, al-Qaeda in Yemen changed its name to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) bringing in terrorists from Saudi Arabia. The Sunni extremist group has claimed responsibility for a string of recent deadly terrorist attacks inside Yemen, as well as a number of plots to attack the US and its embassies.

The Islamist group was behind a foiled plot in 2010 to try to send explosives to the US through cargo planes. Its predecessors were also linked to the USS Cole suicide bombing in October 2000, which killed 17 sailors.
The group has a global jihadist agenda and is striving to create an Islamic caliphate by breaking down political states.



Who is behind the group?
The leader of the group is Nasir al-Wahishi (aka Abu Basir). He is a former personal secretary of Osama Bin Laden but was separated from him in the battle for Tora Bora. He was captured and extradited to Yemen, but broke out of prison in 2006. The US government has offered a reward of $10 million for his location.



Part of the leadership was dual US-Yemen citizen and cleric Anwar al-Awlaki. He influenced the creation of the al-Qaeda magazine Inspire, which is used as an English language recruitment tool for jihadists. He was killed in a US drone strike in 2011.


Why Yemen?
As it became more difficult for extremists to operate in Pakistan, the impoverished Yemen became a haven for terrorists. Political and economic challenges have made it easier for terrorists to recruit there. It is one of the poorest Arab countries, with a poverty rate of 54.5 per cent in 2012.

The country is plagued by historical tribal divisions. A political vacuum after the Arab Spring in 2011 has made it easier for AQAP to operate relatively unhindered.



What is the political situation in Yemen?
Shiite Houthi rebels from the north recently seized the capital after fighting a long battle with the government. There are fears this could create more recruits for the Sunni AQAP as it faces competition from fellow jihadist group Islamic State. It could also make it harder for the government to take on AQAP.



What is the US doing?
The United States has been targeting AQAP and other terrorists in Yemen with drone strikes. Some believe this is radicalising Yemenis against its efforts to fight jihadists. Some put the number of drone strikes in Yemen at up to 84, with as many as 541 killed.

The US has been collaborating with Yemen on counterterrorism since the USS Cole bombing and 9/11. It backed the removal of deposed ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh after the Arab Spring, which has created a long political transition and weakened the government.



Why was Charlie Hebdo attacked?
Charlie Hebdo is known for its biting critiques of Islam, particularly its cartoons. The magazine's offices were firebombed in 2011, a day after it published a front page of the prophet Muhammad as its "editor-in-chief".
The paper's editor, Stephane Charbonnier, who was killed in the latest attack, was named in a hit list "for crimes against Islam" in al-Qaeda magazine Inspire.
