Saudi ARABIA a member of the Group of 20, has arrested more than 160 dissidents since February as part of the government’s crackdown on protests, Human Rights Watch said.

1303312376554.JPEG

The government should order the “immediate release” of the “peaceful” dissidents, the New York-based group said in a statement today on its website. It also urged Interior Minister Prince Nayef to free Nadhir al-Majid, a teacher and writer who was detained on April 17 in the Persian Gulf city of al-Khobar.

Gulf nations have arrested activists, bloggers and doctors in an effort to quell unrest in a region that holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves. Bahrain declared a three-month state of emergency on March 15 after Saudi-led Gulf troops helped crush protests led by the majority Shiite Muslims, who were calling for more democracy and civil rights.

U.S. and European Union officials haven’t criticized Saudi Arabia for it “systematic violation” of international human- rights laws, Human Rights Watch said. U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and the EU’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, visited the kingdom this month.

In Saudi Arabia, holder of 20 percent of the world’s oil reserves, protesters stayed away from a so-called Day of Rage on March 11 after police were deployed in force in Riyadh.
EU Silence

Al-Majid was arrested while working at a school in al- Khobar, the Human Rights First Society said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. “After the arrest, security forces raided his home in Qatif, where they confiscated his laptop plus some personal belongings,” the al-Khobar group said.

“The EU’s silence on the brazen arrest of a peaceful dissident on the first day of its chief foreign policy representative’s visit looks like a pat on the back for an authoritarian state,” Christoph Wilcke, senior Middle East researcher at Human Rights Watch, said in the statement.

Al-Majid wrote an article on April 2 criticizing the government’s call to stop demonstrations, Human Rights Watch said. He wrote that “we see history bypassing us, and this speaks volumes to the ingrained blindness in political vision, analysis and consciousness,” according to the rights group.

Saudi Arabia is the least democratic country in the Middle East and ranks 160th out of 167 countries worldwide, according to the Democracy Index for 2010 published by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The kingdom said on March 28 that it will hold municipal elections on Sept. 22. The voting is open only to males 21 years and older.

Standard answers to ALL questions raised against KSA.

1)Apnay mulk ke fikar kero.
2) No chori daka in KSA
3) Purdah for all. Even those who dont want to.
4)No malangs or Mazars.

And if all else fails
5) Have you ever been to hajj and seen how they provide services there?

The end.

The questions asked NEVER get answered though.

In my opinion if khaled is missing why reporters Didn't relocate his house to found out truth from his family.why they took his address. Same for of people. Do anybody have any report from family members of missing persons if yes then post it herr for proof. But wait, dont post old missing reports befor that date.

Secondly can you all notice that ladies reporters were without hijaab in front of police. It big slap on those faces who had post a video of prince had told his lady guest no need for hijab in his office...

Brother hans do you haven't any other work then anti-Saudi reports...

So he has a big car. Great. Now he should shut the hell up and not ask ANY questions from the rulers because having a big car is all one needs.

Sadly we in Pakistan cant think beyond the free petro dollars and flashy vehicles in KSA. We cant see that these petro dollars are also being used to fund and equip the Americans who have military and air force bases in KSA. We are a starving nation and hence we cant see beyond our hunger.

If the reporters brought up report about poor person on that point then it may understandable.
Brother Awan you picked only point about car. What you say about other points. Dose his family came up to media for his missing . Missing means no one know whereabouts. Is there any lathi charge by police...

If no one allow then how we hearing or reading news about dron attacks. How we come to know how many people killed in each attack. Do you not reading newspapers. The same NGOs can protest against the attacks to Pak govt / USA govt and to un also. But I didn't got news NGOs protest report. This BS that they don't allow I think there more NGOs working in KPK then rest of country.

In Baluchistan it is even worse and hardly any news comes out. By the way the report you just saw about KSA was from BBC Arabic news and not produced by an NGO.

Re: Saudi Arabia Has Arrested 160 Dissidents in Two Months, HRW Says... Remember Khaled?

Can you explain about your hajj experience if you have.

I will reply to that question if you reply to the questions raised in the following video :

100 Billion USD in military contracts, 25% of them done after the 90s alone!
12 palaces for Fahd ibne Saud alone with one estimated to cost around 2.5 billion USD!

Foreign debt 28 billion USD.
3 Trillion dollars generated from oil over the history of KSA.
1 Trillion reinvested in country, 2 Trillion unaccounted for.

Since 1975 Fahd had setup a system of selling under priced oil to the tune of around 1 million barrels a day at the Rotterdam open market. All proceeds going to Fahds close family bank accounts in Switzerland. 3-5 billion USD made by the Royals annually selling oil outside the fixed market rate.

Land in KSA owned by government and hence under the direct control of an unaccountable King. He bestows it to princes who sell it back to the government at high rates.

Covert financing of CIA operations around the world to the tune of 1 billion USD.

Question to the over zealous admireres of the Royal Asses of KSA:

You claim they rid the land of Bidaats.
Are you BLIND to the fact that they have virtually put our Holy places under the direct 'protection' of the USA?

Do you think a few maalangs on a mazar are a bigger threat to our religion as compared to the presence of the military might of the US on the soil of Arabia?

Have you ever stopped to ponder that the real mushriks are actually these very 'custodians' of our Holy land who worship money and power that is being bestowed upon them by the West?

Atleast people should be thankful for providing at least good services to people at that large scale and they are trying to improve it day by day, and brother columbus is true that we r been betrayed by our own country fellows, take the current years scandal as an example

Let's say ISPR reporting that 6 etc killed in dron attack then what els NGOs want. They just need small point to protest they don't have to be there.
