Free speech, for the selected ones

In 2010, the Arab European League was fined 2500 Euros for publishing a cartoon on their website that questioned events surrounding holocoust. In the cartoon, two men are seen standing besides a bunch of dead bodies in Auswitch when one of them says I dont think they are Jews. Then the other one replies We must get to the 6 million somehow. The cartoon appeared on the official website of The Arab European League in 2006. Although a two-year old episode, this is still relevant in order to expose the pattern of the society we live in and its failure to take an action against Islamophobia.

The Muslim world is currently going through a powerful wave of anti-American and anti-Western demonstrations following the publication of the defamatory movie Innocence of Muslims. Everywhere from Rabat to Jakarta, Muslim protesters are going public to express their dismay over yet another incident of blasphemy against the Noble character of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon Him.

In the aftermath of the publication, many countries have demanded YouTube to remove the film. Google, the owner of YouTube have so far refused to take any such action. The movie is so far seen by over ten million people. In France, there is yet another defaming caricature of the Prophet Muhammad has been published on the front page of a new magazine.

Blasphemy against Islam is disguised as free speech. Some apologetics look towards free speech as an immovable sanctity, as if it were one of the foundations of the western societies. Even though there is a high level of free speech in the west, this rule is not absolute but relative to what the social values, norms and contemporary ideas allow to be promoted without censorship. Criticism against Judaism, is any form or part, is in contrary deemed as discriminatory and anti-semite.

Just recently, the Arab European League was fined 2500 Euros for publishing a cartoon on their website that questioned events surrounding holocoust. In the cartoon, two men are seen standing besides a bunch of dead bodies in Auswitch when one of them says I dont think they are Jews. Then the other one replies We must get to the 6 million somehow. The cartoon appeared on the official website of The Arab European League in 2006.

On their official website, they write that the purpose of this cartoon, and many others, is
not to endorse anti-Semitic, homophobic or sexist stand, but to try and confront Europe with its own hypocrisy using sacras and cartoons. We will therefor continue our sarcastic campaign in the days to come and we will not be intimidated by the ridiculous law suite that was files against us in the Netherlands.

The League said that the decision to make this cartoon came after the failure of Dutch prosecutors to put islamophobic Dutch MP Geert Wilders on trial for distributing cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.
The court said that although they value the notion of free speech thoroughly, they are making an exception for the denial or trivialization of the Holocaust.

If the Leagues purpose was to expose hypocrisy, they have indeed succeeded. The recent events have shown us a overly much observed pattern in which the Muslims are to be exposed to as much blasphemy as possible in order to tame our strong feelings for the Beloved Prophet pbuh, but the sentiments of the Jews and Zionists are to be protected at any cost.
