From reading through your topics here, I feel relatively safe that I won't get bashed simply for being American.
Like you I'd like to see an end to this whole mess.
I'm just not understanding why the Talib are attacking your country.
And, given this kind of behavior, why Obama can say that he'd like to see the Taliban have a seat in Afghanistan's new government.
Can you help teach an ignorant American?

Have you heard a story about a Master and his 12th slaves living in arural area away from the busy life of town ? I see Musharraf is visiting your prestigious Universities. I wonder what kind of education he might be providing to your new generation.....

Okay, sorry that I was a little condescending in my reply. Now, we have different version of every one's truth. I have Taliban's truth, Pakistan Army's truth. I also got American's truth then I have an Indian truth as well. One the tier 2, I have people of Afghanistan's truth, and the people of Pakistan's truth and again the people of India's truth...... which one would you like ? let see !!!! I guess since you turning towards us, you already rejected America's truth . Is this right ?

For the most part, Yes that's correct.
I mean I know we're the ones that put the Talib in power to begin with so we have only ourselves to blame. Well, that and man's evil nature....
I would like to get the whole picture from you, Zaidi, from all of these perspectives.
While i consider myself very proficient in American politics, the only information i get about the situation in your part of the world tends to come from slanted sources.

Dear Hortysir( what is this mean by the way ? ) , I think you already have a bit of background info for this mess. I don't pertend to have a monopoly on the truth as you know when the opinion is taken, there is always a sort of personal biase or prejudice comes along.You may also know that many countries in the Globe, do not like the American Foreign Policies.I do not blame a common American working men and women since they won't even know what kind of policies their Governemnts persuing outside of the USA. On the other hand, I think it is a responsibilities of every citizen to ensure that the policies of their Government would not in anyway become deterimental to their country and generate unneccessay hate for their fellow citizens. In this respect, there is a need for American Citizens to somehow acquire an independent foreign policy review from an independent pool of their intellictuals to ensure that the policy makers consider their opions and when making policies their suggestions get implemented.Now what we recently seen in my part of the world, is a policy failure on bif magnitude. We have an open wound and it is being treated with band aid.

I think in order to understand the scenario we have to first fully understand the BIG GAME the US is playing in the south east Asia - There are many things that America sees as their vested interests/threat in this region (same doctorine invented by neo-cons and now being adapted by the current administration). First of all they want open and free access to the Central Asian energy resources, then there is a question of keeping an eye on China which is a real threat to the US and then there is Iran and last but not least nuclear power of Pakistan which happens to be the only Muslim country to possess it etc etc. Whatever double games are being played by the CIA and their cronies are focusing on these issues. They want to impower India and discredit/isolate and eventually subdue Pakistan (i.e. its forces and the political institutes), hence blast in Iran. If they are able to succeed in doing this they will have achieved majority of their objectives. Once you understand these issues the question of Talibans and terrorism etc becomes immaterial. I would recommend watching an ongoing series Brasstacks - CIA threats to Pakistan, which is available on youtube, and you will have a better idea of what the HELL!!! is going on....

Pardon me if i tend to flinch when people hint that our presence somewhere is due to a "land (or resource) grab".
I mean, we've been to Korea and Vietnam without spreading Americanism.....or, at least, not on the grand scale some would have us believe in this instance.
For so many years all I heard was "Bush is only after the oil". I haven't been able to find cheap gas where i live...
Anyway....
Do you believe that yet another 'troop surge' is necessary in Afghanistan to subdue the Taliban, or is our presence just adding fuel to the fire and we should just butt out???

Let me take you back to the earlier part of 2002 or right after the 911 incident. Amercian were furious ( and rightly so ) after the 911 and they were looking ( barking at every tree) to get their avenge ... The obl was repeatedly mentioned in all tv talk shows and Bush was busy making phone calls around the world. I remember, Pakistan hurried up their Ministers and others to Talk to Taliban for handing over the Obl and others who were suspected by Americans. The Mullah Omer asked the Pakistani authorities to produce the evidence against them and once done, they promised to look in to them and will hand over the Culprits if the evidence show their involvment. Now you know that eventhough Americans never recognized the Taliban regime,they never severed their contacts with them. The evidence were never provided to Talibans and the attacks started up. Now, for the grand planning of the things, as usual and by miracle OBL is still alive and the reason for quitting Afghanistan never die. Iraq got a side bruised as well eventhough Saddam swear many times a day that he never knew anybody taking part in 911.I don't know why Gasoline is high in America, However, you know that the oil Companies of America (including the name with dick Cheney) grabed the steel of the century by hedging the price of oil to about under $ 40/ barrel for next decades while the oil is hovering over $ 70/ barrel now. Go figure who won the war !!!! Now as far as the Afghanistan is concerened, I always tell my kind American friends that there is nothing there for them.For all you can do is create more mess while clean a little less. To me every Pashtun speaking Afghani is Taliban. How would you tell the difference ? Unless and untill you get rid of the total Pushton Population of Afghanistan, you can never get rid of them. period. so, What you do ? You heard the old saying " if you can't beat them , join them" If I were an American leader, I would declared the victory and fold up the stuff, say good bye to Afghanistan. Now, If they want to kill each other, how would you stop them ? The problem is this is too simpilistic soultion to a very complicated problem( the more complicated you make, the more hard for common American to figure it out, beside it sounds so sophisticated), and American will find it against their intelligence.

Just a foot note . I feel for ordinary Americans. I was reading NYT in which the story of a morge from Detriot was written. There are deadbodies waiting for the burials and the relatives don't have enough money to pay for it.Even the city ran out of the Budget for the funeral costs and looking for the additional funds.It costs about 700 dollars for the crimination and the guy says he doesn't have that much money even in his credit card...... Sorry story.
