Show Cause Notice To “Geo News” On Airing Irresponsible Promos, Programs Undermining National Integrity

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) today issued a show cause notice to Geo News channel for airing programs in sheer contravention to patriotism as well as in disregard to the Code of Conduct.

Geo News on 12.5.2011 around 7:56 p.m. aired a considerably derogatory song “Kon Sacha Kon Jhuta” maligning and demeaning the Govt. as well as the armed forces.

It is reiterated that under section 20 of PEMRA Ordinance (Amended as PEMRA Act-2007) read with clause 1(g), (h), (j), (o) and (p) of PEMRA Code of Conduct contained in PEMRA Rules-2009 and license terms & conditions prohibit airing of any such program. The said clauses are reproduced as under;

(1) No programme should be aired which:
(g) contains aspersions against the Judiciary and integrity of the Armed Forces of Pakistan;
(h) maligns or slanders any individual in person or certain groups, segments of social, public and moral life of the country.
(j) brings into contempt Pakistan or its people or tends to undermine its integrity or solidarity as an independent and sovereign country.
(o) contains material which may be detrimenal to Pakistan’s relations with friendly countries; or
(p) contains material which is against ideology of Pakistan or Islamic values.

PEMRA has requested Geo News channel to immediately stop airing any program / debate or material which is perceived against national security, sovereignty or integrity. Moreover, Geo has been asked to show-cause immediately but not later than 03 days failing which legal action shall be taken against the channel for such serious and deliberate violation. Furthermore, on repeated violation, PEMRA shall be constrained to suspend transmission of the channel in exercise of relevant provisions of PEMRA laws.

Hmmmm, under this clause, all PPP leaders should be barred from appearing on TV and/or all such programs should not be aired. Show cause Notices should be issued to all media outlets.

For example;
1- Babar Hewan said we expect such verdicts from Takhat-e-Lahore, even though the verdict is from Lahore High Court and nothing to do with the Provincial government.

2- Faisal Abidi constantly used disperging remarks about the Judiciary in TV programs. PEMRA is sleeping about his flagrant disregard for their roles.


3- Kaira said, the post of the President is political, selected by politicians, how it could be separated from the Politics. PPP had a year to contest this petition in the Lahore High Court but they did not defend it. Now they have the chance to go to SC, but instead they are belittling the Courts in the media. Why kaira didnt appeared in the Court and put these questions to the Justices of Lahore High Court?

4- Even the Chief Minister of Sind has said they are going to protest against Lahore High Court decision. Excuse me, this politician think he has the right to protest against court decision? Why shouldnt he be held for contempt of court to launch protest against it while he is in the Government and sworn to adhere to and act according to the constitution of Pakistan.

To adhere to this clause, almost all the political parties, their leaders should be bared and licences of all TV channel should be cancelled. Our politicians do not do anything

(j) brings into contempt Pakistan or its people or tends to undermine its integrity or solidarity as an independent and sovereign country.

Ha ha, what about charging Rehman Malik, Gilani, Zardari and Haqqani for undermining Pakistans integrity and solidarity, its independent and sovereignty by issuing visas, arms to the Americans, to allow them operations within the state of Pakistan including the drone attacks on innocent Pakistanis? No news about these traitors should be broadcast; anyone who does not follow the directive their licences should be cancelled immediately.

(p) contains material which is against ideology of Pakistan or Islamic values.

All the enlighten moderate make joke about Pakistan ideology and Islamic values. Our TV stations show many programs which make fun of ideology of Pakistan and its Islamic value. We have many commentators who disparage Pakistan and Islamic values.

This PEMRA ordinance is made a joke, by no other than ruling PPP. Muhammad Tahir should issue Show Cause Notices to PPP leaders, if he has courage and intend to uphold the rules and regulations of PEMRA.

Geo ,Jang & company is disperate . They owe more then 24 billion to the treasury of this poor nation.There is no doubt that this govt is a bunch of nincompoops but its a fact that Jang group is a cheap band of money minters who are reluctant paying their debts .Its a huge amount, govt should take over all the assets of Mir Khalil u rehman and kick out their low life agencies informers staff .

Geo got 50 million dollars recently from usaid to promote american interests now of course they just can't do that openly they have to do it in a cunning way and the way involves trying to downgrade and abuse the ISI and the army with idiots like sethi and hamid mir because america wants to see an end to pakistans military might i.e. nukes and you people here abusing the army are falling in the trap of this conspiracy with your silly ideals of democracy and justice.
