Can you please provide the link of above statement??? I heard that Rasool pbuh stated the last ummah as best ummah of all time because we are believing in islam and rasool saw even without seeing them..
There were people and so called freinds of prophet pbuh who turned against His pbuh orders, while He pbuh was present among them. for example Gazwa-ahad.. and there were people like abbasis, umavis, yazed ibne muawya and marwans, who witnessed prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad pbuh with their own eyes, but turned against Him and killed His Household :Allaih: and Sahbas:razi: just after prophet's pbuh death..

As far as social sins and crimes are concerned, unfortunately we have more opportunities for sins as compare to them but these bad habits were practiced by them as well..
