Imran Khan Condemns Killing of Protestors in Mianwali
Islamabad (July 5, 2011)
The PTI Chairman has condemned the killing of 3 protestors and injuries to scores of others in Mianwali. He said the use of excessive force against protestors cannot be justified. He said load shedding has destroyed small to medium sized industry, affected agricultural growth, and is the single biggest cause of rampant unemployment.
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at the partys Central Secretariat, the PTI Chief demanded compensation to affected families, action against police officials that ordered the shooting of protestors, release of all arrested protestors, free medical treatment of the injured, and an end to unannounced load shedding in the district. He said the agriculture in Mianwali is suffering as the farmers cannot operate tube wells due to excessive load shedding. He said despite the presence of a number of power generation units in Mianwali district, the people there have been made to suffer extra hardship on account of excessive load shedding.
Responding to a question on the PML(N) initiative to form a grand alliance against the government, he said the PTI has so far received no formal invitation to participate in any national conference, Mr. Imran Khan stated that the PML(N) would have to clarify serious doubts about its grand alliance initiative in view of its past track record. He said the PTI has been consistently stating that the present NRO manufactured government is destroying vital state institutions and causing irreparable damage to the economy and that the only democratic option left is mid-term elections. He said every time the PTI demanded mid-term polls, the PML(N( would throw its weight behind the government under the guise of saving the system. He said the nation demands to know what has changed over the last 3 months and the real motives of the PML(N)s somersault by seeking a grand alliance against the government.
Imran Khan reiterated the demand that the nation does not expect free and fair elections under a caretaker government set up by a President who is also the Co-chairperson of PPP. He said the PTI would intensify its remove the government campaign and expects the Supreme Court to take decisive action to remove the present destructive government and install a truly neutral care taker set up. Only a neutral caretaker set up with the blessings of the Supreme Court can hold free and fair elections under an independent election commission and transparent Nadra based electoral rolls.
The PTI Chief thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for his historic decision to remove the nearly 37 million bogus and to register newly 40 million new voters by December 2011. He said such decisions augurs well for the restoration of real democracy in Pakistan.
The PTI Chief said the party would unveil on Saturday, July 9 the salient features of its 100 day plan that addresses critical issues facing the nation such as; terrorism, a plan to end load shedding, increased revenue generation to end dependency on IMF loans, economic growth, and employment generation.
