PESHAWAR: Police will launch a targeted operation across the province towards the end of this month, people familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune on Friday.
On the directives of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department and headed by the deputy commissioners and district police officers of the respective areas, an operation will be carried out against target killers, extortionists and kidnappers.
Police have been asked to collect all necessary information about lawbreakers in their jurisdiction within a weeks time. Once the information is gathered, a strategy will be finalised.

Extortions and kidnapping for ransom has turned into a thriving business and many gangs are functioning without much attention from the quarters concerned, sources said, adding the conundrum has created many social problems in the society, among them an increased sense of insecurity.

The decision was thus taken by the home department in a high-level meeting to rid the province of violence and extortion.
Authorities have also been directed to heighten the security of the central and sub-jails in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in order to avoid any more jailbreaks. All jails have been directed to beef-up security of their buildings and enforce a strict ban on the use of mobile phones inside the jails by inmates.

Security has been heightened in the wake of the jailbreak at DI Khans Central Prison on July 29.

Even though jammers were installed to suspend network signals inside jails, there were reports of prisoners having access to cell phones. Police have also been directed to monitor movements of foreigners and inform the home department of their activities. A monitoring cell has been established for this purpose.

Why are they telling us even before it has happened. If it were me I would have stayed quite about it got my forces ready and had intelligence personnel on street level for at least 6 months and then when I know where all the crooks are made a move.

Take them all out, kidnappers, drug dealers, gangsters u name it a complete clean out, hit them without knowing them knowing it, and hit them hard. Zero tolerance that is what is required.

Selective accountability?: Government to verify degrees of taxation dept officials

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to verify degrees and educational documents of all officials appointed to the excise and taxation department in the past five years.
A notification signed by the director general of the taxation department was issued by the establishment department on Friday upon the directives of the Adviser to Chief Minister on Excise and Taxation Mian Jamsheduddin.

The notification directed all excise and taxation officers in K-P to obtain degrees, testimonials, certificates, among other relevant documents from all employees who were appointed or recruited in the five years and get the documents verified from boards/universities/institutions. They will be required to send a self-contained report to the directorate as early as possible for submission.

Meanwhile, former K-P minister for excise and taxation Liaquat Shabab lashed out at Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak, accusing him of undertaking the exercise due to his personal bias against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) which he left over a rift to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Now after being appointed as CM, he (Khattak) has the authority to issue notices to any department to earth out illegal appointments. But this should be done for everyone and not just one department, he said.

Shabab claimed the CM transferred many officials appointed under his tenure from the excise department to other bodies and argued it was not legal to target a single department. Inquiry should be held for every department.

I diagree, The trouble is made by the authorities as well. Every nation has mechanisms to let foreigners in their country, but Pakistan didn't follow any. Now the Right way would be to initiate a registration process and then issue them Pakistani passports and Visas in exchange for fees. If they don't apply for such Visa of Fees then they should be deported like every nation in the world does.
