BHOPAL: Driven by her dream, a teenaged girl hailing from Chinchira village in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh decided to enter into wedlock with a snake on the occasion of Nagpanchami on Sunday. The girl repeatedly saw the snake in her dreams and used to talk with it, said villagers.
The girl sat beside a pit beneath a tree waiting for the groom to come out for the marriage in the morning. As the news spread, superstitious villagers from nearby areas descended at the site to witness the rare marriage.
However, the wait became endless as the snake (groom) disappointed the crowd and the bride too. All kept waiting with offerings amid puja and bhajans but the snake failed to come out of the pit till late night.
Police had a tough time in regulating the crowd as the numbers increased.
Barghat police station in charge, Bhagat Singh told TOI, "The rumour spread and soon there was a heavy crowd in the village. We had to be there till late in the evening to ensure law and order".
Shiela, 14, daughter of Chandra Prakash Parte has been claiming for the past three months about mystic appearance of a snake in her dreams, Singh said. The girl claimed that recently, the snake had expressed its desire to marry her on Nagpanchmi and warned that if her parents didn't agree to the proposal they will be ruined.
Villagers claimed that the snake is seen only by the girl and her parents could only hear the girl talking to the snake.
