Researchers at a Dutch university said getting on your bike regularly could add six months to your life as well as making the years you do have much healthier.
So if youre about to commute to work on two wheels you have every right to feel smugger than the rest of us schmucks hurtling towards an early grave.
Carlijn Kamphuis from the University of Utrecht told the BBC: You could say that for every hour you cycle, you get an hour back in return. So it adds to your life actually.
She found out that people in Holland who cycled for an average of 74 minutes a week had a life expectancy of six months longer than non-cyclists.
Of course this may have something to do with cyclists taking care of themselves more generally but its definitely a vote a confidence for people who love the Lycra.
If you're not convinced, here are some more reasons being a cyclist is awesome.
Its free: Avoid paying for petrol or public transport and get some extra days of your life into the bargain! Cant say fairer than that.
Save the planet: Youre not contributing to climate change as the only fuel youre using is food and water good job!
Its quick: Cycling is obviously faster than walking, but if youre cycling in a city rush hour you might also overtake cars idling in traffic jams as well.
The researchers used data from the World Health Organisation to investigate the benefits..
They estimated 6,500 deaths every single year are prevented in Netherlands because of the countrys love affair with cycling.
Throughout the country, known as a paradise for cyclists, there are 37,000 kilometres of segregated cycle lanes.
