After correctly dissolving the PMDC for its well publicized illegalities , unfortunately persons nominated to executive council seem to be controversial too. If an army person was to be appointed it should have been from serving lot as is usual , not a retired Azhar Mahmood Kiyani who is occupying a civilian slot meant for senior cardiologists of provincial government . Known as an arrogant stent man with penchant for conflict , this moment requires some some one more wiser and more widely educated as matters are semi political , regulatory and academic . Similarly Abid Farooqi known as Mr. No in his circles might not increase conflict ,though he is regarded as systematic and stern .
Saira Afzal Tarrar is not the right person for the task , she seems to have followed judges alliances , Tarrar , Saedduzaman siddiqui , his Quetta buddy ,a former chief election commissioner were one group in the 1990s crisis created by then CJ SC from sindh which was opposite group . Recently ,Saira Tarrar appeared in complaint case against national TB programme manager in senate and defended him, he is of former CEC mentioned above . This doctor was very close to former Saedduzzamans , so much so that they got a ruling from Nawaz Abassi a then LHC judge that since wife of SC CJ is advisor to an institutional head in grade 18. So institutional head of grade 20 is supposed to act on advise of the his advisor .
Saira decision on polio , geriatric programmes, other issue were also indicative of her limited knowledge . She despite in power could not control PMDC . Two drugs with same name would have invited resignation in some countries .
President should appoint senior persons from all sub specialities to PMDC as PMDC is technology poor. The other day a case was brought to notice of legal men where PMDC had rejected a certificate by highest technical body of UK , and people making this decision were from forensic medicine and matter was of an advanced speciality . Private lobby medical college cannot be ignored but there should be no dominance of politician doctors like Asim or careerists who never retire like one recently appointed .

PMDC DISSOLVED AFTER COUNCIL PRESIDENT CONDEMNED DR ASIMS ARREST

Saturday, August 29, 2015 - IslamabadMinistry of National Health Services Regulation & Coordination (NHSRC) has dissolved the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) after a statement of the PMDC President Dr Masood Hameed Khan was issued to the media condemning the arrest of its former vice president Dr Asim Hussain. In a late night news release issued to a selected media outlets, Ministry of Health Regulations held that after the approval of new ordinance about the PMDC, the old and controversial PMDC has been dissolved. Now as per the regulations a new council will be constituted within 120 days, further said the release.
A new committee has been constituted to hold elections of the council and the Health Minister Saira Afzal Tarar along with the members of the administrative committee will address a press conference on Saturday (today). According to the press release, members of the new administrative committee include Maj Gen (Retd) Azhar Kiani, Prof Dr Abid Farooqi, Prof Dr Nadeem Rizvi, a member from the Law Ministry and a member from the Finance Ministry.
The latest step to dissolve the PMDC is being seen as a result of perennial conflict between the Health Ministry and PMDC and on a number of occasions the heads of the two organizations brought this war of interests to media. However, the latest move by the Health Ministry is being seen as the result of a statement of condemnation by the PMDC President over arrest of former President Zardaris close aide Dr Asim Hussain. In his statement Dr Masood has said, Dr Asim Hussains services in the areas of health and education are remarkable. His contributions in the field of research are invaluable and educated circles are quite concerned at the news of his arrest, the statement had further said.
