i am presenting here an extract from Wikipedia about 1965 war .this tell us what the world said about 1965 war.you can judge yourself afterwards. here is the source

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Pakistani_War_of_1965

The war was militarily inconclusive; each side held prisoners and some territory belonging to the other. Losses were relatively heavy—on the Pakistani side, twenty aircraft, 200 tanks, and 3,800 troops. Pakistan's army had been able to withstand Indian pressure, but a continuation of the fighting would only have led to further losses and ultimate defeat for Pakistan. Most Pakistanis, schooled in the belief of their own martial prowess, refused to accept the possibility of their country's military defeat by "Hindu India" and were, instead, quick to blame their failure to attain their military aims on what they considered to be the ineptitude of Ayub Khan and his government.

**TIME magazine reported that India held 690 mi[SUP]2[/SUP] of Pakistan territory while Pakistan held 250 mi[SUP]2[/SUP] of Indian territory in Kashmir and Rajasthan. Additionally, Pakistan had lost almost half its Armour temporarily.

  • BBC reported that the war served game changer in Pakistani politics,[SUP][69][/SUP]
The defeat in the 1965 war led to the army's invincibility being challenged by an increasingly vocal opposition. This became a surge after his protege, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, deserted him and established the Pakistan People's Party.

  • Newsweek magazine, however, praised the Pakistani military's ability to hold of the much larger Indian Army.
By just the end of the week, in fact, it was clear that the Pakistanis were more than holding their own.

i didn't copied extract from books of different writer as writers may have their own opinion although i can be read on Wikipedia .the whole is a must read for Pakistanis.
Wikipedia itself is showing Pakistanis defeat as a whole in this complete article.
and you know Wikipedia is world most famous encyclopedia .

Good if you finally accept the truth. The 65 war was a stalemate even though we might have a won if it went for long as you guys were short on ammo and fuel. Albeit with a huge cost. No one can quiet understand why that shastri went for a Ceasefire. Maybe he didnt have the appetite for war. But i would`nt call it a defeat for Pakistan either. Maybe a strategic defeat but not one the ground. You hit us hard in Chavinda and we kicked your butts in asaluttar. So id say it was more like 60-40 India. But considering our serious military limitations and meek political leadership at the time id say not bad. We anyways got our act together in 71 but well thats another story.

Whatever losses may be 65 war ended with high morals for pakistani,s & indians were desperate of not getting major gains even with 10 times big army,if you lost the moral that is true defeat like 71,even you didnot lost anything when raymond davis saga GHQ /ABBOTTABAD/MEHRAN BASE attack but morally whole nation were in shocked & felt defeat.

Size of army doesnt matter in modern warfare, from the six day war to 2nd gulf war, it never has. in 1965 pakistan had way better equipment and were better trained and highly motivated, compared to India which were still recovering from the shock defeat against China in 62 and were definitely under equipped and down on confidence. So id say we did reasonbly well under the circumstances. Pakistan underestimated India badly and paid for the consequences. The moral of the story, false jingoism can never replace logic and hard facts, ground realities. Id rate siachin in 1984 and Kargil 1999 way above 1971. Siachin was daring and full of initiative. Kargil well, having had two cousins who fought in that war and lived to tell the tale, we fought and won under extreme circumstances, pakistan had everything on its side, planning, first mover advantage, not even counting tactical high ground. All your soldiers had to do was roll a few stones and kill a few of ours. That was a war Indian army truly proved its mettle in. Paid fully in blood by our boys. If we could push you back in Kargil, we can beat you anywhere anytime. While not at all underestimating the strength and might of Pakistani Military, which is a strong & powerful force in its own right, in pure military terms. This situation may change later but thats how things stand today and for at least near future.
