Although each and every surah of the quran is full of things that are of utmost importance for mankind this surah is important in sense of human community or society.

Words used in this surah need to be understood in wider context than simply in creedal sense.

In verse 1 we have two words kazzab and deen. The question is what is sense in use of these words in this surah? The main meanings of word kazzab are deny or lie. Deny means not only to not to accept the truth of the matter but also to prevent others from getting something. Likewise word deen also has various meanings eg standard or criterion, something that is proper, right or straight, constitution to live by or way of life based upon social customs or values, tradition, judgement etc.

Grammatically the structure of the verse is such that it highlights divide among people on basis of rich and poor as well as the mindset and the attitude of one kind of people towards the other.

This is why usual interpretations diverts its intended meanings because they either do not realise social aspect of the quran due to ignorance about the human society or that they deliberately try to cover it up so that common man does not notice what the quran is actually saying about state of a society because this will wake the masses up to reality of things which people on top do not want masses to realise.

The verse as I see it is talking about state of divided society. This divide is there because people who have power deny proper way of life for others by trying to control everything they can so that other do not have access to it. The quran wants a caring and sharing community instead of a community that is at each other's throat. Some people are at each other's throat because people deny livelihood to each other that is why they make life hell for each other. This is how they pretend to be good while living in a harmful and destructive way.

This verse is not about hereafter but here and now. The quran is telling people how not to live their lives if they want a better future for themselves and why not.

In verse 2 we have word yateem and that too has various meanings. Not only a child whose father has died but also any person that needs support for his survival or existence. Since human beings cannot survive without each other's help therefore all people are yateem to some degree at some point in life.

The point made here is that people who occupy influential positions in society and have bad mindset and attitude deny proper life to others the while they can who need their support or help.

in the next verse word miskeen is also of importance because it is about such a person who has been rendered ineffective and silent by people in positions of power. The point made here is that influential people in a society ought to help others rise and not drive them to silence or death. Word TA'AAM does not mean food but things of need ie complete livelihood or consumable stuff. The verse is telling people you should be encouraging development of your community rather than turning it into a lifeless community by pushing each other down in to the grave.

The next verse uses word musalleen which is from word salaah. It does not only mean namaaz rather it also means the whole set of constitutional obligations or social customs and traditions or social support network. Here Allah is condemning the social structure of these people, the system they have put in place and their practices which result in to all these things the quran points out in that society. It is telling them that they are neglecting their fundamental social obligations ie the proper social structuring of society, its proper system and practices which ought to remove the social ills pointed out.

The next verse points out that anything you see them doing good for the community is only for show. What does that mean? It does not mean they are doing this to fool Allah but to fool people. The question is, how are they fooling people? By using tokenism ie like photo opportunity of politicians. What they do is, do little bit just to gain more power by doing so through making fool of masses. The idea is to give impression of doing good for society without actually doing anything good for it. The quran is telling people look out for their behaviour in general to see if they have your best interest at heart or just trying to fool and use you. If they give away for use to others whatever they have out of concern for them then they are genuine people but if they do not then they are money grabbers and you should be able to recognise them and kick them out.

The quran is far ahead of clever people among us and that is why it tells how you can catch out disingenuous people among you so don't accept their leadership. Go far sincere people and sincere are those who have heart for mankind in the name of God.
