[TD="class: textad, colspan: 2"]Most of us have heard the story of rabbit and tortoise. According to the story, a rabbit and a tortoise had a race competition. Because of its speed, the rabbit takes a huge lead in the beginning of the race; whereas, the tortoise had barely passed the starting line. Just before reaching the finish line, the rabbit realizes that the tortoise is quite far behind; so, he decides to rest under the shade of a tree; however, while resting, he falls asleep. On the other hand, the tortoise keeps on moving slowly and steadily, and in due course he passes the sleeping rabbit and ultimately crosses the finish line. When the rabbit wakes up, he rushes to the finish line, but to his amazement, the tortoise had already crossed the finish line. Hence, rabbit looses the race inspite of his speed. There are couple of lessons which are taught to children based on this story such as slow and steady wins the race, one should not stop striving by underestimating other people, and consistency and courage are important traits that were profoundly displayed by the tortoise.
There are additional details of the story which very few people are aware of. After losing the race, the rabbit organizes another race, and this time he runs without stopping anywhere and defeats the tortoise by a large margin. Hence, we learn that when capability is combined with consistency a person will always other people. The story doesn’t end here. The tortoise gets upset after the defeat, and realizes that he can never win a race against the rabbit. Instead of getting discouraged, he ponders over the situation and discovers a ground where his victory was certain. Another race competition was organized, and this time too the rabbit runs with the same determination that he will not stop anywhere before he crosses the finish line. However, while running towards the finish line he discovers a river ahead of him. The rabbit gets confused and stops at the bank of the river, thinking how he will cross the river. After quite some time, the tortoise reaches the river and effortlessly swims across the river and crosses the finish line. Thus, we learn that we should never get disappointed. Taking advantage of one’s capabilities, deficiencies of the rival, and the conditions of the surroundings, can help a person in leading a successful life. God bestows a unique quality in each person, which can only be discovered if one is honest and truly determined to find it.
The story doesn’t end here. One day, some hunters arrive in the forest; consequently the life of rabbit and tortoise is threatened. The rabbit is unable to escape because of river, whereas, the tortoise was too slow to reach the river; so, both of them decide to set aside their differences and decide to help each other. The rabbit carries the tortoise on his back and runs towards the river. Upon reaching the river, the tortoise then carries the rabbit on his back and swims across it. On reaching the river bank, the rabbit again carries the tortoise on his back and runs till they are safe.
The last part of the story teaches us that we achieve better results if we work as a team; however, one has to sacrifice one’s ego and false sense of superiority.[/TD]
