The economy grew at an average rate of 3.29 per cent (provisional) in fiscal year 2018-19 against an ambitious target of 6.2pc set in last year's budget, the Pakistan Economic Survey revealed on Monday.
Sector-wise growth rates:
Revenue collection
- Agriculture: 0.85 per cent (against target of 3.8pc)
- Industry: 1.4pc (against target of 7.6pc)
- Services 4.7pc (against target of 6.5pc)
Total revenue at Rs3,583.7bn (9.3pc of GDP) showed almost 0pc growth from July-March 2019, while growth in total expenditures was 8.7pc. The fiscal deficit was recorded at 5pc of the GDP compared to 4.3pc in the corresponding period last fiscal.
"Decelerated performance of total revenues primarily was due to marginal growth of 1.8pc in tax revenues and negative growth of 16.7pc in non-tax revenues," the PES explained.
The Federal Board of Revenue's tax receipts from July-April 2019 remained at Rs2,976bn against Rs2,922.5bn in the corresponding period last year, registered growth of 1.8pc.
"Actual tax collection during [the] first 10 months of the CFY remained at 67.7pc of revised target of Rs 4,398bn," the document said.
Provincial revenue collection rose by 1.5pc from July-March 2019.

These are the economic targets set by Khaqan Abbasi's government in their last budget in May 2018 presented by Miftah Ismael. So it the failure of the Noonas not that of the new government.

Maryam Safdar has a glorious history of dishonesty. She started cheating as early as school days, got enrolment in King Edward medical college with much less than the required marks through her father's PM Nawaz influence but ultimately thrown out of college when it was disclosed.
In Nov 2013 appointed by her father Nawaz as chairperson of PM's youth programme (without any experience or credibility) which was challenged in LHC.
When asked by the judge about Maryam's eligibility, her attorney presented credential in court as M.A. in English literature followed by Ph.D. in political science(?)which was questioned by amazed judge & eventually embarrassed attorney withdrew the academic credentials resulting Maryam's resignation from the post with disgrace.
Maryam had cheated on her own parents, she eloped with Captain Safdar in the darkness of the night & her whereabouts was unknown for a pretty long time. Finally, she got married but the baby was born just after 4 months.
Maryam Safdar along with Pervez Rashid was the architect of the Dawn's planted story. This lie had risked the vital state interests through the inclusion of inaccurate and misleading content which had no relevance to actual discussion and facts.
Investigators in Panama case noticed that documents handed over by the PM Nawaz's daughter, Maryam Safdar in Avenfield apartments case, were typed up in the font Calibri. But the documents were dated from 2006 — and Calibri wasn’t widely available at that point, making a unique case that they were forged.
Maryam was so desperate to bring Qatari prince Jassem to Pakistan for testimony in her favour in the apex court that she spent nearly a full week with the prince (?) in Nicosia (Cyprus ) but in vain.
On 6 July 2018, she was sentenced to 7 years jail term and two million pounds penalty by the NAB on corruption charges in Avenfield reference case. She was given 7 years for abetment and 1 year for non-cooperation with the NAB.
she was disqualified from contesting election for 10 years. The court held that trust deeds presented by Maryam before the apex court was fake and had been tampered with.
The court also ordered the seizure of the Avenfield flats of the Sharif family.
