[TD="class: PageText"]Rawalpindi - December 19, 2011:
Some events of the last 72 hours are being attributed to the telephonic conversation between the President and COAS and the meeting between the Prime Minister and COAS held on 16[SUP]th[/SUP] December 2011.
The Prime Minister has already spoken on the subject in which he stated, “during the meeting with COAS on Friday night, I received a telephonic call from the President by chance. When I informed the President that I was having a meeting with the Army Chief, the President asked me to convey his regards to General Kayani. On this, COAS showed his desire to speak to the President.”
The telephonic conversation between the President and COAS lasted approximately one minute in which he enquired about the health of the President. Hence, attributing anything more to this telephonic conversation is unfounded and unnecessary.
As regards the meeting between the COAS and Prime Minister, a comprehensive press release has already been issued by the PM House which is unambiguous.

COAS only inquired after President in 1-min talk: ISPR

ISPR says Army Chief talked to President only for one minute and just inquired after his health.

The Inter Services Public Relations says that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani talked to President Zardari during a meeting with PM Gilani on December 16. The ISPR said that the Army Chief and the PM were having a meeting when a phone came from the President, and Gen Kayani expressed desire to inquire after the Presidents health. The ISPR said that the PM has earlier made a statement to this effect that the phone came during his meeting with the Army Chief.

Furthermore, the ISPR said, that last 72 hour developments are wrongly being attributed to the Army Chief and the Presidents talk. It reiterated that no other matter except inquiring after the President health figured up in the brief, one-minute telephonic talk
