The Investigation Wing of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested five terrorists associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) with weapons.
Investigation Wing head Mazhar Mashwani said investigations regarding target and sectarian killings were under way when an informant told them of the suspects presence in Site Area.
Acting on the information received, CID officials raided their hideout in the Naurus Chowrangi locality.
The police officials were met with armed resistance, following which they retaliated and an encounter ensued, which resulted in the arrest of five suspects said to be associated with the banned LeJ.
The detainees were identified as Ahsan Shah, Saeed, Azeem, Abdullah and Ramzanullah. They confessed to the police that they were involved in target and sectarian killings, including the murders of Shia scholars, policemen and activists of a political party. Police said the accused had been active in District Central, Site Area and Orangi Town.
