Chicanery no more

By Salim Bokhari Hats off to Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and his corps commanders who have picked up the guts and answered back the US in the same tone and tenor as that of the former CIA chief and currently Defence Secretary Leon Panetta. While Panetta said the United States could not give a blank cheque to Pakistan, our generals boldly announced: Well fight on our own. There was, for the first time, a visible anger at the American Administrations attitude and the threats of withholding military aid and equipment hurled by its officials. One would point to Defence Minister Ahmad Mukhtars statement exposing the chicanery of the US that it was not going to do any favour to us since this money was due for the operations that had since been carried out and missions accomplished. The minister very rightly observed that it was about time Pakistan withdrew its troops from the Western border since the deployment was costing heavily to our kitty.
Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence Ahmad Shuja Pasha has reached Washington for a days visit to convey the Pentagon leadership the resentment that came out during the corps commanders meeting. He will also inform his host that the Armys top brass is unwilling to accept military assistance with strings and drone attacks are no longer bearable. He probably will also make them aware of the strong feelings of the army as well as of the people against Washingtons double standards.
What we have heard from Hillary Clinton, Leon Panetta and Mike Mullen on holding back the committed military assistance is nothing but rhetoric devoid of ground realities. It is common knowledge that US policymakers, military commanders and think-tanks had long realised that they could not win the Afghan war Americas war on terror - and that they were bound to face a humiliating defeat in the not too distant future. If they needed to have a good excuse for face saving, why should it be Pakistan to blame for things that went wrong?
Most importantly, the Americans should know that they cannot deal with Pakistan Armed Forces in a manner that they have been treating colonial armies. Pakistan is an atomic power and its Army one of the five best trained and well-equipped armies in the world. They must check with the military commanders of their new-found friend in South Asia about the calibre of Pakistani soldiers while fighting for the defence of their motherland. They must also learn from the experience of Pakistani troops fighting in Swat, Bajaur and North Waziristan.
Let there be no illusion that if the US is contemplating a direct strike against Pakistani territory, as was indicated in a statement of a Pentagon spokesman, it would meet the toughest army in the world defending its territorial integrity. We are no easy prey. Dare not any military attempt a misadventure because it would then feel sorry. Yours is a mercenary force while ours is a national army. You are fighting to occupy alien lands while we will be defending our own soil. That is a qualitative difference and you must remember that all said and done, Pakistani soldier is filled with the passion of Jehad under which he volunteers to lay down his life.
Another important factor that has forced the leadership of Pakistani armed forces is your undue tilt towards India with which your flirtation started during initially Bill Clintons visit to New Delhi that developed into a more intimate relations during President Obamas India yatra last year when he tried to build it as counterweight to China. It was because of the US undue favours to India that its army chief had the idiocy to threaten Pakistan of direct strike to secure the alleged culprits of Mumbai attacks. He was promptly given a shut up retort by COAS Kayani.
It must be mentioned here that Gen Kayani had already asked the federal government to divert the US military assistance to civilian projects obviously to express Pak Armys rejection of the strings attached to it. The Pentagon aid would get a ready and willing reception from our eastern neighbour, with strings and all. We have enough of it!

Canadian, I wish if everything written in this article is true. But , I am sorry, The facts do not support the wishfull thinking. It may be the wish of the junior quarters of the Army to have its freewill respected and understood in Washigton, But The senior leadership of this Army can't even think of splitting from their slave like mentality. The proof is in the pouding, soon you would see that . I wish if we have some Sulahdin Ayoubi. But there is no Ayoubi in recent batch of Pakistani Army.

Another gem from Nation. Pasha is gone there to do a little begging to have the noose loosened. US will stand firm with their demands that are with the army to act on them or no AID. No action no aid and more drone attacks.

Salute to you Saleem

But what I fail to understand is why did Pasha have to go for one day to tell them? Why could he not have a press conference here and say everything . Or have the US officials visit Islamabad and then tell them???

Unicorn,

Why do you poke your noses in Pakistani affairs? What it got to do with you? Don't worry Pasha would give them the answers necessary, he did in his last tour to the USA too. No wonder yanks are at their bits end ever since. This time they will get the answers even in stricter manner. Salim is right, USA or you i.e. India can not do anything against Pakistan. We got what you or American can never ever have, courage.

Look at the Afghans, how did they fight and defeated the Americans?
During the time of USSR it was said they had US help, money and arms, but what they had this time?

No one helped them not even Pakistan, who actually helped the Americans. But they still defeated Americans.

And What Americans have to show for their arms and huge money they spend?
Look at the surge, 30,000 more troops, they couldn't clear and hold one little province "Kandhar" despite now trying for almost two years.

Courage, and bravery, something you and they will never have, and we have it in abundance.

for all the haters out there.. let it be clear that if it wasn't for double game by Shuja Pasha's ISI, Pakistan would be like Afghanistan right now... with the kind support of our eastern neighbor.

And for the yanks, let there be no doubt, if Pakistan did not help you in Afghanistan, you would have lost in five years than ten.
And if Pakistan have assisted the Taliban, you would have lost in 3 years than five.

You are scared of death while Taliban are not.
You got massive arms, money, but still failing and trying to find scapegoats.
They have nothing but courage, and still winning, kicking your asses.

Your troops can not move without air cover, for the fear of their assess get killed by bunch of amateurs. The amateurs bravely attack your fortifications despite having very light arms and no air cover.

You are bunkered down, in fear of your life. They are freely roaming around the mountains and valleys. Who is better?
You should know, this is the wake up call you yanks needed. This is not Iraq, we are not Arabs, get this through your thick heads.
We have history going back 7000 years of defeating the enemies. You should never ever forget it, nobody, absolutely nobody has ever won.

Actions speak louder than words. It is a cowardly thinking that had Pakistan not helped US to ruin afghanistan, US would have thrown pakistan to stone age. World salutes to those nations who take a 'principle stand'. Unfortunately we as a nation never took a 'principle stand'. Whats the point to do all this now, why it wasnt done in the first place when US asked Pakistan for cooperation, why pakistan didnt take a 'principle stand' and why our army had no 'balls' to say 'No' to US at that time. I love Pakistan army but i find no justification to continue to love Pak-army when i confront myself with the following facts:

1- We lost more than 35,000 innocent pakistanies - who is responsible for that? Answer -Pak-fauj. This irreparable loss is direct result of Pakistan's involvement in war on terror, so, who is responsible for - the answer is Pak-fauj, yes army is directly responsible for these killing. It reminds me killing of innocent Bengoli people by the hands of Pak-fauj in 1971.

2- Who took the decision to take Pakistan into this so-called war on terro? Answer - Pak-army. Why, just coz a Grade-22 US Defence Secretary Colin Powell phoned our army chief and threatened pakistan to sent it to stone age. I wonder how a Four Star Serving General and Commander of 5th Strongest Army of the world could do so just on a single phone call. Why our army generals had no courage to say 'No' to US at that time. Thurkey refused to give bases to US, then why Pakistan surrendered every thing? We dislike Ex-Army Chief Musharraf coz of his policies, but the question is how we can love present Chief Kiyani and his team when they are pursuing the same policies? Pakistan faced greatest set-backs of the history while Kiyani is chief, so who is more pro-american?

3- Pak-fauj used to tell us lies about drone attacks for the last 10-years. Now everybody knows that drones were being operated from our own Air bases. Why army lied to its own nation? Now when pakistani nation have started questioning army's conduct, army says its a propoganda agaisnt them.

3- Pakistani army is equaly responsible for all human killing in Afghanistan. Hundreds and thousands of innocent Afghan muslims losts their lives in this war, since Pak-fauj is front line alley of US, therefore, Pak-fauj share these crimes equally. Pak-fauj claims to have done more than any other nation in this war, that means Pak-fauj have killed more innocent people than any other army in this war.

When we say life of every human is precious irrespective of his religion or nationality and when we say that a killer is a killer no matter if he is an American, Indian or Pakistani then to me there is no difference among pakistani, american, indian or israeli soldiers who kill innocent human. [every person is innocent untill the guilt is proved].

I cannot close my eyes from Crimes Committed by Pakistan army just because it is Pak-Army.
