Lahore shooting victims: Joint bank account for donations irks widow

LAHORE: The widow of Faizan Haider, one of the victims of the now notorious Lahore double shooting, has expressed reservations over the setting up of a joint bank account between her in-laws and the family of the other victim, Muhammad Fahim, for drawing financial assistance from the people of Pakistan.
Zahra Faizan, Haiders widow, alleged that she was never taken into confidence regarding the development.
While talking to The Express Tribune, Zahra blatantly said that since she was Faizans actual heir, her in-laws had no right to claim his Diyat (blood money) without her consent.
Making clear that she was not in agreement with accepting compensation in exchange for Davis release, Zahra said she should have been told about the joint account before the news was made public, and considering that she is three months pregnant, she was bewildered at the notion that she had been sidelined from any decision making concerning the case against her husbands killer.
Nabila Shehzad, Zahras mother, alleged that after her daughter had moved in to live with her following Haiders death, Zahras in-laws advised them to keep their cellphones turned off and to move out of their house to avoid any police raids and media from hounding them. She suspects it was a bid for her daughters in-laws to strike a deal with the authorities in terms of the case.
The victims brother, Imran Haider, rejected the notion but admitted that his family had asked the public for financial assistance through a joint account.
Providing the details of the account, he said the account, bearing the number 06177900259503, had been set up under the names of Waseem Shamshad and Imran Haider, brothers of the victims Fahim and Faizan, at Habib Bank, Lahore High Court branch.
Responding to why his family had not kept Zahra in the loop regarding the said account, he said womens input in such decisions was unnecessary.
Financial aid
On behalf of PLM-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat and PML-Q Secretary General Punjab Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, along with some other MPAs visited the residence of the bereaved widow Zahra Faizan and handed her Rs1,00,000 in cash and assured her that they would provide her and her expected child financial assistance for life.

Pappu yar tung na ker!

They way the media and govt official are liars and dhoka baaz, I have some serious doubts that any one will every know how much US paid to get the terrorist out. I am just hoping it truly was a khun baha and they survivors were not intimidated by the Pak officials into siging adeal.
Here is what I think has happened:

1. Leaders (such as Foreign minister, zardari, malik, and gillani, a wonderful opportunity to make some hard $.

2. they pressured the survivors and threatened too of dire consequences and of how US aid will be shut and the country will suffer. The survivors are the product of Pakistan therefore are not familiar with haggling.

3. US probably paid in cash about $20,000 to each survivor thru the superintendent of the Jail. Now the qorst thing the US could have done is give him the money. I guarantee the survivors have seen MAY BE $1000 and the rest is resting comfortably in the bank account of the Super, min of interrior, and president.

Clinton has denied any payment only because she does not want to open a flood gate of money demands because the US very well knows that every body in the world has claim against the US from $100 to $1B or higher.

If this was truly a khun baha deal worked out between the parties and the survivors have received the money, then lets stop the argument and be done with it because Islam allows khun baha. CASE CLOSED

note: US president Zardari and Sec of Interiors Malik key hotey huey bhi koi American convict ho sakta ?

Goodbye ghairat

Goodbye ghairat

by Nadeem F. Paracha on 03 18th, 2011

ghairat-blog-290.jpg
Ghairat’ (pride or honour), is a term that is often heard and used in the Pakistani media these days.
This is a term usually associated with TV news anchors, talk-show hosts, analysts and members of political parties who are verbose and smug, who get more space on TV news channels than votes.
It is a term that reflects images and sounds related to the muscle-flexing, big-talking and huff-puffing ways of ultra-patriots, or in case of Pakistan’s electronic media – free-wheeling loud-mouthed charlatans playing the role of fiery dyed-in-wool patriots.
So who comprises the ‘ghairat brigade’? It is a wide spectrum: from the usual bearded and hijab-wearing kind who are rather apt at expressing nationalism with the jingoism of ‘political Islam’, to the suit-and-tie wearing man and designer-brand-carrying ladies who would have been nothing more than periodical cranks restricted on the fringes of journalism and politics had the electronic media not been so generously allowed into private (ratings-driven) hands.
The scary bit is that it is this ghairat brigade that has ironically found itself at the centre of a society in turmoil – actually answering and addressing the many political, spiritual and ideological inquiries emerging from within a highly disturbed, battered and confused society.
But I’m afraid, absolutely none of the many politicians, ‘analysts’ and media personnel who can be bracketed as being ‘ghairatmand’ have any clue whatsoever about what they are going on and on about.
Fed on various conspiracy theories and sheer political and historical myths cleverly created by intelligence agencies and pseudo-historians, most of the ghairatmand are no more informed than your average drawing-room punter – or worse, that young middle-class lad or lass who feels elated by thinking that he or she has covered all aspects of politics and religion with the help of a few lectures by a certified conspiracy crank or by watching a straight-to-YouTube ‘documentary’.
But alas, the state Pakistan’s society is in for these past few years, where hardly any positives come the way of the people (especially its youth), the concept of ghairat
This attitude should not be taken as a positive. It can help people recover or heal from a fresh tragedy but when it becomes a habit, or worse, a way for the media, preachers and politicians to attract profitable attention, it begins to have a devastating effect.
After all, this lets-be-positive-through-ghairat outlook is largely delusional. It leaves most of us navel-gazing or passionately contemplating about manufactured issues but conveniently ignoring what we as a society really ought to be doing – making sure that Pakistan is able to compete with the rest of the world on all the vital economic, political and cultural levels.
Honourable sloganeering and going around pin-pointing ‘enemies’ and traitors, blasphemers and ‘agents’ will not achieve much. In fact, it will achieve nothing other than making us one of the laziest people who spend most of their energy complaining or being paranoid on the one hand, or sweating out bombastic and passionate patriotic chants and some more talk about ghairat.
Such bubbles when they burst, hurt. In fact, they then leave those who had lived in these bubbles feeling stupid if not downright insulted. And it is nobody’s fault but their own.
Just take a look at what has been going across the shocked faces of the ghairatmand
What I mean is that these people had become the judge and jury, suggesting that their love for ghairat and patriotism (read anti-Americanism) gave them the right to conclude the Davis case in favour of their victimised country long before it actually went to court.
Of course, many of them were being taken for a ride by those who needed them to foment the kind of anti-Americanism that was required by these secretive shadows so they could use it to extract concessions from the CIA.
But really, the problem with jumpy and excitable right-wing exhibitionism and thought – especially when it expresses itself as a chauvinistic strain of patriotism – is that it removes any trace of rational thought and awareness from those indulging in it.
Thus, this expression of ghairat and patriotism is not only purely rhetorical and incapable of ever understanding the intricacies of realpolitik it also gives the loudest among the ghairatmand a narcissistic buzz, further alienating him or her from the reality around them.
But what happens when reality does come knocking? Look no further than the faces of the ghairat brigade in the media these days.
Always feeling cheated by the politicians, this time they felt cheated by even those whom they had praised of being equally ghairatmand (the shadowy ones).
The truth is it was these shadowy folks who actually began the ghairat spiel, feeding it into the public mindset through their willing mouthpieces in the shape of ‘security analysts,’ talk-show hosts, anchors and right-wing politicians with weak electoral prowess.
moulded with empty muscle-flexing and collective feel-good theories about our nationalistic and religious greatness, serves as a way for the people to pretend that all is not lost. media men and politicians who had started to construct their careers based on the Raymond Davis case.
____________________
The ghairat brigade treat the nation as children whom they can mould into becoming the ideal ghairatmand Pakistani Muslim.
On the other end, the shadowy ones that use the ghairat brigade treat the ghairatmand as blobs of ambition but with emotional levels usually found in hyperactive teenagers! A perception that is not that far from reality.
The shocking (but not surprising) verdict in the Raymond Davis case has once and for all exposed the utter fallacy and meaninglessness of what was the Pakistani media’s latest ideological hoax called ghairat.
This country has witnessed many such hoaxes, sometimes in the name of Islam, sometimes accountability and each time these hoaxes have fallen flat on their faces, making the nation look like a bunch of emotional fools incapable of handling any issue with reason, pragmatism and sense.
It is time we say goodbye to this hollow ghairat. We must find honour, dignity and respect through constructive work in the fields of economics, science and the arts, instead of looking for ghairat by crying out war chants, paranoid accusations and waving our skinny wrists and fists while pretending to ride our way to ghairatmand
It is time we finally grow up.
glory on our much cherished nuclear missiles.

Deal being questioned even by those who shouldn`t

Deal being questioned even by those who shouldn`t

Davis flew out of Pakistan on Wednesday after $2.3 million was paid in blood money to heirs of the two youths he had killed on Jan 27. File photo

ISLAMABAD: The agreement between ISI and CIA that helped end the stalemate between Pakistan and the United States over American spy Raymond Davis is being increasingly questioned at home even by the political parties which are believed to have helped arrange the blood money deal.
Davis flew out of Pakistan on Wednesday after $2.3 million was paid in blood money to heirs of the two youths he had killed on Jan 27, but what made this settlement possible through Shariah law were successful negotiations between the two spy agencies which had been at odds because of differences over `operational matters`.
But no one among the political leadership is sure about what was secured and what was conceded by the two agencies and as one politician put it: Deals having strategic implications should be shared with parliament. ISI and army can no more enjoy the exclusivity they once had.
Unlike the past where few questions were asked about secret pacts with the US, including the one on drones, there is this time a growing chorus within the country demanding full disclosure of the new CIA-ISI understanding, which is being broadly defined as redefinition of the cooperation parameters or discussions on the contours of engagement.
A statement issued by the office of Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan accused the government of a sell-out and said: Those who took this major step should have the moral courage to accept it and disclose it before the nation.
However, Pakistani and American sources claim that the PML-N leadership was one of the four architects of the blood money agreement that followed the ISI-CIA rapprochement, even though it now wants to shrug off all responsibility.
Rightwing Jamaat-i-Islami has filed an adjournment motion in the Senate and called for an explanation of roles of the federal and provincial governments, subordinate judiciary and intelligence agencies in the matter.
Talking to reporters, veteran politician Aftab Ahmad Sherpao said Davis`s surprise release proved that all matters had been resolved earlier.
CIA may have secured strategic interests in the dialogue, while ISI could have gained institutional interests, but what did the people of Pakistan gain out of this deal? another politician asked.
Most of Pakistan-US furtive deals have been hidden in the secretive world of intelligence. The only information available to the public about the ISI-CIA patch-up is that the American spy agency would be more respectful and more transparent in dealings with its Pakistani partner. Besides, it is claimed that the operational space for CIA, which previously enjoyed unbridled freedom, will be cut down.
The Americans have, on their part, successfully avoided a ruling on immunity for the CIA contractor. An adverse ruling could have affected CIA`s covert operations worldwide.

Re: Deal being questioned even by those who shouldn`t

HERE the Deal is fishy. It is not between the killer and the aggrieved but with the force of Governments and intercession of Saudi King offering big ransom money in millions of dollars. There were two issues involved in this case.

1. A person who was an "illegal" entrant in the country and possessing unauthorized weapons, on a broad day light kills intentionally two citizens of Pakistan on flimsy grounds on a thorough fare. He is arrested red handedly. The superpower of the time applied all the unethical pressures to get him released but couldn't succeed as the public opinion was totally against his release. The culprit was under trial. The outside governmental influence manipulated the situation for his release but failed in front of public pressure.

They have no choice but to go to Shariah Law as it was in their favor. They apparently prevailed upon the family of the aggrieved people and coerced them to agree to accept huge ransom in millions of Dollars. The poor families succumbed to the uncalled pressure of governments and agreed to his release against the payment of Ransom. They gave the statement of acceptance in the court in Jail and within an hour or so, the captioned prisoner was released from jail, flown to Afghanistan by a military helicopter and he is now on his way to the USA .

2. He was an illegal entrants in the country, possessing a lot of unauthorized weapons and was an agent of CIA. The honor and prestige of the country was expressly involved and he should have been tried separately as the spy agent of a foreign country. The entire country was in favor of it but the interests of the ruling click in Pakistan were in jeopardy. As such, they all became party to the case and were maneuvering for his release one way or the other by hook or by crook.

* The release of Davis is a crime against the country. It has tormented and violated the honor and prestige of the country which stands sold for a few million dollars. Can the Supreme Court of Pakistan take notice of this gross neglect on its own accord and call the Regime to justice and bear the consequences of their shameful act of neglect.

* It was a crime against Shariah Law which has been used very improperly. The Shariah gives permission to the aggrieved to pardon the criminal against Ransom so that the wounds are healed, enmity does not continue and the compensation money may console the hearts and feelings of the aggrieved. Here in this case "consent" came from outside pressure, the kings, the Presidents and the so-called democratic governments have equally committed a crime against Shariah Law. Who will put them on trial?

* This release represents a case of total cowardice and that of coercion applied by Pakistan Government, Saudi Government and that of the USA through lucrative means but the families involved have exposed the game as the BBC International Evening News of today [March 16, 2011] showed that the wife of a person killed by Davis was crying and saying loudly that "she "will not accept the Ransom money adding: "It will not bring back my lost husband. I am ruined for ever". It must not be forgotten by anyone that the wife of other victim has already committed suicide as she couldn't bear the loss of her husband killed intentionally by Davis .

* Islam has equally allowed taking "KASAS" [revenge] in stead of Ransom money. Has this case not become of open "coercion", Davis would have paid the cost of revenge by going through the legal proceeding to the gallows. The Qur'an keeping the human sentiments of the aggrieved majestically commands: “And there is life for you in revenge or retaliation, O men of Intellect, so that you may have [developed] Allah- consciousness" [Verse # 179 of Surah Al-Baqarah]

* Will the learned scholars of Ummah around the Muslim world sit together and decide wither the use of coercive means to get the aggrieved party accept the Ransom by outside forces as stated above comes within the per view of the Qur'anic provisions or it TANTAMOUNT to denial of justice to the aggrieved parties?

* Can the Islamic Parties of Pakistan accept this outcome as a fate accompli or agitate the people to rise against the Government of Islamabad ? Allah has provided the best opportunity to establish the Rule of Shariah in the body politics of the country or miss it for ever?
