Afridi may supervise KP under-19 trials
KARACHI: Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi and former leg-spin wizard Abdul Qadir are expected to supervise trials of the under-19 cricketers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium at the end of next month.
“It has been proposed that Abdul Qadir, Shahid Afridi and one other Test cricketer should supervise the trials. It will be finalised soon,” PTI Sports and Culture Forum secretary Mohammad Asif Orakzai told ‘The News’ on Saturday.
He said that the PTI chairman Imran Khan would formally inaugurate the trials. The dates would soon be announced, he said. He said that the date for submission of the registration forms had been extended from August 31 to September 3 in a bid to provide ample chance to youngsters. He added 3000 forms had already been submitted. He expected around 5000 under-19 players to undergo trials. Asif said that two teams would be formed of cricketers belonging to the tribal belt, while five outfits would be formed of the youth of the settled areas.
