News relating the list handed over to Pakistan by the United States is making quite some rounds. Quoting American and Pakistani officials, an American television has claimed that during Secretary of State Hillary Clintons visit to Pakistan, a list of five most wanted criminals was handed over to Pakistani officials.

The list includes names of Al-Qeadas number two Ayman al Zawahiri, Taliban leader Mullah Omar, chief of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami Maulana Ilyas Kashmiri, Leader of the Haqqani group in Afghanistan, Sirajuddin Haqqani and Al-Qaeda chief in Libya, Atiya Abdel Rahman.

As per the claims, the US wants to determine if Pakistan is still committed in fighting the war against terrorism or not. However, the whole story makes one wonder how a very vital name i.e. Hakimullah Mehsud has not been included in such a list.

Zulfiqar Mehsud or famously known as Hakimullah Mehsud is the ameer of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He was deputy to Commander Mehsud and one of the leaders of the militant group Fedayeen al-Islam prior to Baitullah Mehsud`s death in a CIA drone missile strike.

Sources confirm that Hakimullah Mehsud maintains ties to al-Qaeda, the Afghan Taliban and various Pakistani jihadist groups, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Even the US designated Hakimullah a terrorist.

Apparently on September 1, 2010 the United States added the militant leader to its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists and the TTP to its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations but amusingly forgot to add this root cause of terrorism in Pakistan in the said list for joint action. Or is it because Hakimullah is providing the same type of anti Pakistan services for his American mentors which BaitullahMehsud was providing, that his name has been deliberately kept off the list US certainly owes an explanation to that.

Refering back to the Media reports of August 25 2009, two commanders of the Taliban, Hakimullah Mehsud and Waliur Rehman called The Associated Press and acknowledged that the terrorists top leader Baitullah Mehsud had died as a result of injuries caused by the US missile strike on August 5, 2005. Many a sources confirmed that Baitullah was being funded by India and used to carry out the terrorists actions on the behest of his Indian mentors.

After few days of his death, Baitullahs father-in Law, son, brother & Nephew were kidnapped. Talking to the BBC Urdu Service, Federal interior minister, Rehman Malik stated that the Taliban had killed Baitullah Mehsuds father-in-law Ikramuddin, his son Ziauddin, brother Saeedullah and nephew Iqbal Mehsud on charges of spying for the US forces in Afghanistan.

Knowing of Mehsuds previous contacts with Indians and with Karzais people, the reason for Hakeemullahs name not being on the list makes sense, really. With treacherous friends like Americans who needs enemies..
