Pakistan removed from list of heroin-making countries

ISLAMABAD: Name of Pakistan has been removed from the list of heroin-making countries, while 80 percent heroin of the world is being produced in Afghanistan despite the US and its allies’ control on that country, Federal Secretary Anti-Narcotics Sohail Ahmed told The News. He said that it was after continuous efforts for some years that Pakistan had been declared such a country where heroin was not produced according to international level. According to sources of United Nations, 40 percent narcotics are being smuggled from Afghanistan via Pakistan while 60 percent via Iran. Burma is also producing 16 percent heroin. Meanwhile, a sharp increase of use of heroin among people has been noticed in Pakistan.
