Need urgent feedback from a Spinal Doctor/Specialist

I am attaching the findings of an MRI i had done a few days ago and the Doctor's report i received.

I have had a sharp shooting pain in my right leg in the hamstring area for the last 2 and a half months. I don't recall anything which immediately caused the problem, i suspect it may have been caused by a rock climbing session i did in May though i never felt any pain or discomfort during or after the session. All i remember is waking up one day in May and feeling a sharp shooting pain in my right leg.

I at the time suspected it just might be a niggle, hamstring strain which would go away with the passage of time after resting it naturally and using pain killers. Unfortunately the problem persisting and kept getting worse. I went to my family doctor a few times during this period who kept on treating it as if it was just a minor hamstring strain and he just prescribed me pain killers and later just suggested i go to a sports rehabilitation centre.

Finally a few weeks ago, two doctors, specialists that i went to suspected that i was suffering from Sciatica and they recommended urgent physiotherapy and recommended that i have done an MRI asap. Unfortunately in Canada it is a huge pain to get an MRI done, to see specialists because the waiting line is huge which means you have to wait for months.

So i decided to come to Pakistan a few days ago and immediately had an MRI done at Jinnah Hospital and i am attaching the results.

Looking at the results, i obviously cannot understand what the results mean but my mom who is a doctor says i cannot weight train, excercise ever again, lift heavy objects ever again in my life which is scary and depressing to hear.

The doctor so far is recommending that i go on medication, bed rest for the next 10 days, minimizing the use of stair cases and the only physical activity that he is permitting me to indulge in is swimming.

Anyways i am attaching a copy of my MRI report and i am hoping for some feedback from doctors, spinal experts over here for their layman explanations, feedback for which i will be most grateful

The recommendations made by physicians including your mom are all correct.
Take rest, seek physio's help, who should recommend you some exercises. If you are heavy with bugling tummy that will be a problem adding grief to your condition. The best exercise is swimming which will help sooth your pain and help loose weight.

If doctor tell you do surgery don't do it , excercise and little bit physical therapy don't lift heavy weight for couple months until you feel better

well I read it throughly .I will try to explain is simple language but my apologies for medical jargon.
it has some critical structural abnormailties,
the ligament with strenthens the vertebrae is inflammed and thickened
its also causes the disc(cushioning between vertebrae) to bulge out and impingeing on the spinal cord.
it seems your are either doing alot of weight lifting or putting too much pressure on your spine at lumbar region(waist area)
we always recommend using waist belt ,support belt while doing strenous work.
any how the damage is done, not worst news, it cant heal but we can save it from further damage!
there are multiple treatment options
you can start with conservative treatments first .
physiotherapy will help but wont help you gain full fledge pre condition strength.
if the pain goes beyond control we can do a surgery to reduce stress on spinal cord
its not going to be easy and its not recommended for every one!
only sports guys or very young who wants to keep agility .
At the end bro its not the end of life people in worst cases become
paralised so keep morale up ,think positive!
your vertebra aka backbone needs some serious rest.
you almost killed it while pumping iron (are you weight lifter?)
stop heavy weight lifting for 12 months atleast.
loose weight it will help relieve pressure on spine.
I wish you all the very best for your health. if you need surigal reference I will gv it you .

Actually, i haven't done any weight lifting for the last 6 years on a consistent basis. Maybe on and off for a maximum for one month at best. In fact i strongly feel my back muscles have weakened as a result.

I tried Rock Climbing off late and only did one session in May. Perhaps something happened during the session which i didn't notice at the time but i can't think of any other episode.

Will Surgery help to fix the problem? Can using the back Waist belt help?

need to see the whole MRI dvd .imaging.
I wont recommend surgery as first step .noone does.
lets forget about surgery untill all other options are exhausted !
nothing happened in one day, its consistant pressure or God knows what were you doing !
dont know your age and weight and BMI so cant comment.
no waist band helps for support during exercise only!
lets start with loosing weight
Please seek expert opinion from neurologist or neurosurgeon.

I can't see your MRI report but I have almost gone through the same problem. I had sciatic pain in one leg and later on had it in both legs. You could feel the pinch/pain from lower back/butt cheek all the way to your foot. I also had dislocated joints in my back so it was very obvious that I had to go through surgery. Anyways, your case seems to be different than mine.

Suggestions:
1- DON'T LIFT until you are back to normal.
2- Try avoiding exerting any pressure your lower back.
3- Light exercise will help you. Stretching, touching your toes (YOGA kinda work out would immensely help you).
4-The warmer you keep it, the better it is.

I could have explained it better if your MRI was visible. Anyways, hope you feel better !

Are you a doctor or a patient?
