Then you don't use electricity!

You can't take an apple from the fruit vendor and not pay for it.

You don't want to pay for the electricity then don't use it. These are corporations that provide you with this utility.

Usually your bill is based on your usage over the past month.

So basically you are not paying for what you used?

You have to admit that this move is pretty bizarre even by IK standard.

How bizarre is that compared to an entire election system befrauded and rigged in a country of 200 million people

How bizarre is that compared to killing 22 innocent people protesting in their country just to get their voices heard !

and i can go on and on ....

The difference is a complete highway robbery done in a candid fashion and called an "elected government" compared to a declared rebellion !(bigsmile)

Mr. Fakir, so you will go to a bakery and pick a cake, eat it and then say that I will not pay because of the 'istahsali nizaam' in the country?
Would people in Karachi stop paying their electricity bills too? Its a private corporation supplying electricity there.

I can give you a bigger list - this injustice and zulm didn't just start in Pakistan. Come on now you are a little smarter than this.
This has been going on in Pakistan since its inception but that doesn't mean thatyou stop paying for a utility - yes the utility that you have already used.

Its been done before in London in 1990 when people refused to pay poll tax, electercity bills r indirect taxation nothing against its usage nothing bizarre but a form of civil disobedience to borrow somebody else words see thats how it works there is a method to madness "the key question is neither violence nor non-violence, neither legality, nor illegality; it is disruption. Popular movements are engaged in civil disobedience whenever they recognise the society's dependence on their co-operation, cease co-operating, and actively disrupt its smooth functioning. This moves politicians to spittle-lathered furore. It is the way in which progress is made"

You know what, the argument you are making is bizarre. How is electricity an indirect tax? :)

You buy food, you pay for it. You buy clothes, you pay for them. You get a hair cut, you pay for it. You buy petrol, you pay for it.
You use(buy) electricity, you pay for it. Just because the billing is deferred doesn't mean that you didn't use the utility.

Tax is a totally different thing. You don't have control of where your money is being spent and you have no say in allocations. And,
you have no choice but to pay your taxes.

What you included later in your post sounds all good but you are making it out to be much more than what it is. That you use something and then
you don't pay for it. There are boycotts and you could boycott something like people are asked to boycott Geo TV or Jang or The News newspapers. But
what people will do is that they will stop buying those publication but what you can't do is to not tell the 'akhbaar wala' delivering the paper to your house to
stop delivering jang or the news and then when he comes around to collect the bill you say:

"the key question is neither violence nor non-violence, neither legality, nor illegality; it is disruption. Popular movements are engaged in civil disobedience whenever they recognise the society's dependence on their co-operation, cease co-operating, and actively disrupt its smooth functioning. This moves politicians to spittle-lathered furore. It is the way in which progress is made"

I don't have to tell you what the 'akhbar wala' will say to you
:)

The logical inference you have used is not applicable in this case. You have to hear out the full story first.

I'll take your example to complain : the "bakery" is a government funded entity and is going bankrupt because the biggest defaulter is the Prime Minister and his businesses in the country.

So in other words the PM and his minions can come to the bakery, eat at will and at times even eat way the full bakery and not pay zilch for anything, with the Bakery having no issues with it, then why are my 2 cents a "zulm" ??

The law should be the same for both !...What works for others should work for me !...Heck im not even being hypocritical about it !...other were ...:)

You are confusing the issue at hand.

The non-payment of the electricity is not because there are defaulters out there. The point being made is that since the demands of the recount are not met so we have to somehow create a disruption (as rtabbassum) put it. If non-payment of the bills and default were the case then people can do a lot of things and you can bring the whole system down.

You are looking at it from a philosophical point of view. My question is that if you claim to be a law abiding citizen and claim that you will not break the laws and regulations then its very simple - you pay for what you use.

Let me give you an analogy - if the PM is coming over to eat the cake and not pay for it, basically stealing, then you don't expect to walk in there and do the same what a thief just did, take something and not pay for it.

You are missing my point completely. You don't steal because someone else is steal, you don't murder because someone else is murdering, you find ways to stop them and this way to stop them is not very smart or legal.

Re: I will burn my electricity bill in front of crowd on Friday :- Imran Khan

Yeah thats not what Imran said. You have to dig back and read/listen to the first of his speeches when he announced the initiative.:)

Protests being aside, He clearly stated that major power companies were Bankrupt because of abuse by local industrialists and the biggest being the honourable Prime Minister and his industrial setup

You can check with LESCO and other power companies...

Now, because the were BANKRUPT and the PM and other corrupt entities run by this political mafia dont pay there bills these power companies have ONLY one way of surviving and that BY overcharging ORDINARY consumers like Imran, you, me etc .

It is against THIS HIGHWAY ROBBERY that Imran announced that he wont pay his bill and llikewise others shouldnt either.

This is not stealing because others are stealing but rather STOPPING THE THEFT in progress (bigsmile)

I can pay my bills but not pick up my PM's tabs just because he is corrupt !..... ...if the system comes down, then it deserves to because its being run by goons.

Lets not feed the hands of the robbers shall we ....Im sure you like to pay for your own cake and not pay a high premium on a cake just because your PM wont pay up for what he owes !

Again, its a lot more complicated than what you are making it out to be. If LESCO has defaulters then how come a consumer in Karachi justify not paying his or her utility bills.

I am not arguing with you that the leaders are not corrupt or that they don't abuse power but what I am saying is that there are ways to handle those but you can't just
not pay for soemthing that you have already used. If they are complaining about power tariffs then they should come out and say it.

You can't have this hodgepodge of protests at your whim.

Like the people on that PIA flight offloading the passenger even though was illegal but completely justified. They didn't physically remove the guy but forced him to go by pressurizing him.

What I am saying is that this sort of act is not warranted and not well thought out.

Let me know what happens when you don't pay your bill :)

Re: I will burn my electricity bill in front of crowd on Friday :- Imran Khan

What other ways can he or anyone adopt when 22 people are killed and an FIR is not registered !

What you are saying makes sense in an environment where their is even a remote sense of morality or fear of any kind of law present in the governing body.

In the present case of Pakistan, it is one set of laws for the political elite, where they can not pay their bills and magically their homes are lit the best, they can make a flight loaded with people wait for hours and can get away with it, but a sincere man making the slightest mistake is penalized.

This system my friend CANNOT work !

Doesnt matter if its karachi or anywhere else !...The real deal is that DOUBLE STANDARDS be it in anything will not be tolerated !

If the power company wants us to pay there bills they have to first GET THE PM to pay up and STOP overcharging us !

Thats not complicated its just plain old FAIR
