Sorry to state a very historical fact. Many of the rajas and sardars of present day Pakistan became Muslims just to save their estates on partition. Anyway in pre-partition times there were not so many raja ,sardar and malik families as are present today even after accounting for an increase in population. Even hajjams are now becoming maliks [Rehman Malik]. A Gilani was recalling of a weaver who used to write Gilani with his name. When confronted he promptly became an Abbassi. I have pointed it so many times that there are more Syed here than the whole of Arab world, more Abbassis than the total population of Iraq and Syria, more Bokharis than the whole population of the Central Asian states. Pakistanis are in a perpetual crisis of identity.
