LONDON: The American who shot dead two men on a Lahore street, triggering a diplomatic crisis between Pakistan and the United States, is a CIA agent who was on assignment at the time of the incident, says a report in the Guardian.

Based on interviews in the US and Pakistan, the Guardian said it could confirm that the 36-year-old former special forces soldier, Raymond Davis, was employed by the CIA. It`s beyond a shadow of a doubt, said a senior Pakistani intelligence official.
A number of US media outlets have learned about Davis`s CIA role but have kept it under wraps at the request of the Obama administration, which fears that the disclosure could inflame opinion in Pakistan and possibly put Davis at risk.
A Colorado television station, 9NEWS, initially made a connection after speaking to Davis`s wife, who lives outside Denver. She referred its inquiries to a number in Washington which turned out to be the CIA.
The station subsequently removed the CIA reference from its website. Nicole Vap, an executive producer, said: Because of the safety concerns, we decided to amend the story. But it remains accurate.Agencies(http://www.dawn.com/2011/02/21/davis-a-cia-operative-guardian.html)

Anti-Americanism

From the Newspaper (7 hours ago) Today

“SHOCKING, unjustified anti-Americanism will not resolve [Pakistan`s] problems,” said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in New York on Friday. The fact is, however, that anti-Americanism in Pakistan is not at all shocking, and much of it is not unjustified. Ms Clinton`s remarks came as two Pakistanis were gunned down in broad daylight in Lahore traffic by an American whose work here remains a mystery. A third man was run over in the ensuing chaos when he was caught in the path of a speeding American consulate vehicle. That driver has disappeared, and the US has insisted on blanket diplomatic immunity for the gunman. This has not gone down well in Pakistan for obvious reasons. Questions linger about Raymond Davis`s work here, exacerbated by suspicions about the presence of American security contractors in Pakistan and the reputation such individuals developed in Iraq. Even his exact diplomatic or consular status remains unclear. In this context, the US stance has come across as an arrogant defence of a suspected murderer simply because he is American, and although a US congressional delegation`s visit here after her speech has helped ease tension on the issue, Ms Clinton would have done well to take that into account.
But this incident is simply one example of the double standards that inflame anti-American sentiment among liberals and the right wing alike. Drone strikes arguably violate America`s concern for human rights. Support for the Zia and Musharraf regimes and the blind eye turned to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto`s hanging violated its constant call for democracy. And while American officials have expressed regret over abandoning the region after the war against the Soviets in the 1980s, memories of the variable American policy here over the last three decades will not go away easily. While it may be justified for America to safeguard its own interests, it should not be surprised at the anger of those who bear the brunt of the fallout.
This is not to say that Pakistan has had no role to play in fuelling anti-American views. Some elements of the state have promoted these for their own benefit, and arguably are doing so today by delaying a verdict on the question of Mr Davis`s immunity. Politicians, too, have exploited the sentiment for popularity, with little concern for the fact that by doing so they are feeding extremist views and squeezing the space for moderate voices in Pakistan. But what would take the teeth out of such efforts is a consistent, long-term American policy towards the region, one in line with the values the US upholds for itself.

Raymond Davis a CIA agent: Guardian

The American who shot dead two men in Lahore, triggering a diplomatic crisis between Pakistan and the US, is a CIA agent who was on assignment at the time, guardian.co.uk reported on Monday.

The report goes on to say Based on interviews in the US and Pakistan, the Guardian can confirm that the 36-year-old former special forces soldier is employed by the CIA.

Davis was arrested on January 27, after he shot dead two young motorcyclists in a busy marketplace in Lahore. Since then, relations between Pakistan and the US have been strained over Daviss trial, where the latter claims that Davis has diplomatic immunity.

Earlier the Punjab police and intelligence officials had claimed also that Davis was a high-profile spy. The evidence was provided by Davis in his confessional statement during investigation, a senior police official had told The Express Tribune, requesting anonymity. We have concluded that a gang of American spies is active in Punjab and other parts of the country, he added.

Last week, Fauzia Wahab also had to resign from her post as the Information Secretary after making the statement that Davis was a diplomat and hence had diplomatic immunity.

Davis had ID card of Peshawar US consulate

Updated at 600 PST Sunday, February 20, 2011

2-20-2011_11107_l_u.jpg

LAHORE: The Identity Card recovered from US double murder suspect, Raymond Davis, who killed two innocent Pakistani citizens in a busy market in Lahore, was of US consulate in Peshawar instead of Lahore, Geo News reported Sunday.

The ID card represents Raymond Davis being employee of US consulate in Peshawar in instead of Lahore consulate, sources said.

The US consulate number mentioned on the ID card is 4819151, sources claimed.

It is pertinent to mention here that US man Raymond Davis is currently being tried in Lahore High Court (LHC) under charges of killing two innocent Pakistani citizens in a busy market, Mazang Chowrangi, in Lahore.

Later, while the suspect was trying to flee the crime scene so a US consulate vehicle came to his rescue, which trampled to death another man who had come in way.

Davis, before court, said that he had killed two men in an act of self-defence.

US government has been pressing Pakistan since the heinous crime was committed to release Raymond Davis under pretext of diplomatic immunity.

Re: If Raymond Davis freed by Govt. then Damadam Mast Qalander on pakistani streets, move to US consulates.

Few Questions to Fawad (US State Departement): Short answers related to questions please.

We would like to have answered some questions:

1. For what purpose Davis led Illegal weapons with him? We know why but would like to know your point of view.

2. Images of Pakistans sensitiv locations in David's Camera, for what purpose? We know why but would like to know your point of view.

3. Legal Car number plates are also a must in Pakistan as in western countries. Any awarness of Pakistani Laws?

4. Why practising pressure on Pakistani authorities, when this issue of immunity can be resolved in Court. Why so hustle? This creats only new questions.

Thank you

Big Prize: Raymond Davis is CIAs acting Chief in Pakistan

51po%2Bq4SaQL._SL300_.jpg
It seems that Raymond Davis is singing like a bird.
In a Mad Hatters world, all this would makes sense. The Nation, one of the largest circulation newspapers with a colossal followin in Pakistan is reporting today that Raymond Davis is the Central Intelligence Agencies acting head in Pakistan. This may be the biggest spay scandal in the history of the world, bigger than Gary Powells U2-crash, and bigger than any other Cold War and WW2 scandal.
Jawad R Awan in a headline story in the Nation describes Raymond Allen Davis as the Second-in-Command to the previous station Chief Jonathan Banks. Jon Banks had to leave Pakistan when he was outed because of Karim Khans petition in the court against him. Karim was a resident of North Waziristan. He had filed an submitted a FIR (First Incident Report) against the CIA station chief for the killing of Karims brother and son in one of the drone attacks.
According to the Nation Raymond Davis took over the responsibilities of Jon carrying out all the tasks previously under the domain of his boss, including gathering information for and directing drone attacks. The Nations sources confirmed that one of the main tasks of Davis was to keep CIA network intact in the tribal agencies as well as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). This would explain Raymond Davis multiple trips to the Afghan-Pakistan border.
This story makes a fool out of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Munter and even President Obama who called Mr. Davis our diplomat. It is very obvious that the CIA does not qualify for diplomatic immunity. A massive operation to rescue Davis cannot be ruled out. Now the petition to move him to Lahore Court begins to make a lot of sense.
If the story is true this is explosive stuff.
It is expected that the US will issue an immediate denialbut then leaks wil begin confirming the story.
Apparently Davis is addicted to chewing tobacco (Naswar), a common trait in many Western Cowboy States like Colorado, where Raymond is from, speaks fluent Pukhto and has complete information about the cultures being practiced in all the provinces. According to the report Raymond Davis was monitoring and assisting other operatives gathering information about religious and right-wing organizations (read Jamat e Islami, JUI etc), especially those who take a sharp line against the US or India. Apparently the US operative was establishing a local network for the CIA in Pakistan by recruiting the locals through various front organizations, of which some were launched in Pakistan and some from other friendly countries of the US in the western world. This seems like a book out of Bob Woodwards book Obamas Warsor an article from Rupee News.
Awans sources said that Davis was trying to establish a local CIA network in Southern Punjab. In an apparent rebuttal to the criticism of the ISI, Awan clarified that the security services were ready to thwart any conspiracy against the country hatched locally or internationally. IN some bombastic rhetoric the article said that the security agencies always exposed the enemies of the state and averted several threats to the security and integrity of the country. If the Security Agencies were so proactive, Raymond would have been identified a while back. On the other hand, maybe the ISI was giving them enough rope to hang himself with. It is now abundantly clear that Mr. Davis was being watched, and the CIAs Anti-Pakistan activities were being monitored closely.
The phone calls of Mr. Davis were monitored which has revealed his true identityalready exposed by a local Colorado News station and then reconfirmed the Guardian and the Telegraph of the UK. US papers have been admonished and have been told not to out the true identity of Mr. Raymond Davis. According to a local Pakistani news channel Davis told his family not to worry about him but only pray for him. He said, I have committed a mistake, and I have realized it. According to press reports after talking to his family members on the phone, Davis became sad and didnt even eat chocolates and drinks the US Consulate sent for him.
If the story in the The Nation is true, this arrest of Mr. Davis will fundamentally transform the US-Pakistani relationship. If true, Mr. Davis will not be released till the US stops the CIA activities that Mr. Davis was involved in. The US has made many blunders in the world. If the Nations story is true, this is one of the biggest. This will make the Iranian Revolution look like a Sunday picnic. By Divine intervention, pure happenstance and orchestrated monitoring, the US and Pakistan have come to the inevitable crossroads. Perhaps Tariq Ali was right when he wrote Pakistanin the flightpath of American Power.
The US can resolve this by working with th families and hammer out a Qasas deal (blood money and swap for Dr. Aafia), apologize to Pakistan, work with the Government of Pakistan to stop this blatant interference, and then move on with live. It can resolve with quickly or drag it out. Its up to America.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence spy agency. Some reports, quoting Pakistani intelligence officials, have suggested that the men Davis killed, Faizan Haider, 21, and Muhammad Faheem, 19, were ISI agents with orders to shadow Davis because he crossed an unspecified "red line".

A senior ISI official denied the dead men worked for the spy agency but admitted the
CIA relationship had been badly damaged. Tensions between the spy agencies have grown in recent months. The CIA
Islamabad station chief was forced to leave in December 2010 after being named in a civil lawsuit.

Although the two spy services co-operate in the
CIA
's drone campaign along the Afghan border, there has not been a drone strike since 23 January – the longest lull since June 2009. Experts are unsure whether both events are linked.

Several press reports have speculated that the authorities worry the
US could try to spring Davis in what one termed a "Hollywood-style sting killing".

Whether this is story is 100 % True or False but the way the US officials (including Obama) have shown their anxiety and concern over the matter shows that there is something (rather a lot) fishy fishy

Re: Raymond Davis was about to give Nuclear Bomb To Terrorists?

There may be various fabulous stories about Raymond Davis but the fact remains that he has murdered two innocent persons while having an unlicenced weapon and was also having other illegal material with him. The police has collected sufficient incriminating material against him. The government of Pakistan is also talking that the decision about the fate of Raymond Davis by the courts will be acceptable and not through any other device. At the same time, the Americans are pressing hard for the release of Raymond Davis. I am afraid that how long the Americans are pressing for one person and how we are surviving after having large number of casualities of innocent citizens of Pakistan in terrorist, suicidal attacks. The mysterious stories about Raymond Davis must be brought to picture so as to expose the real picture of the Americans. Inshallah the time is coming when the Americans would face the music. At present our politicians are although commenting upon Raymond Davis case but very carefully as ultimately they are also at the mercy of Americans.
