Finance Ministry releases Rs 7.083 billion out of Rs8.900b allocated budget for FATA

ISLAMABAD: The Finance Ministry has released Rs 7.083 billion out of Rs 8.900 billion allocated budget as development budget for Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) in the first half of current fiscal year (2014-15).
“It is a comparatively good percentage of released amount out of allocated budget in last four years” statistics related to Finance Ministry and available with this scribe revealed that concerned departments have utilized an amount of Rs.1.670 billion from the released funds.
FATA comprises seven tribal agencies (districts) and six frontier regions, and are directly governed through a special set of laws called the Frontier Crimes Regulatons (FCR). The total population of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas was estimated in 2000 to be about 3,341,070 people, or roughly 2% of Pakistan’s population. Only 3.1% of the population resides in established townships.
