US pressures Pakistan to free Dr Shakil Afridi

LONDON: US is pressing Pakistan to release a doctor being held for helping the CIA track down Osama bin Laden, a UK paper said in its report.

Dr Shakil Afridi was arrested by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency after it discovered he had been recruited by the CIA to run a fake vaccination programme in Abbottabad to try to get DNA samples from the al-Qaida leader's suspected hideout.

American authorities are trying to rescue the Pakistani doctor, his wife and children, and take them to the United States, according to Pakistani and US officials.

It is believed that Afridi was arrested by the ISI at Karkhano bazaar while on his way back home to Peshawar from work in Khyber, that lies between Peshawar and Khyber.

Hang the ghaddar sucker, Pakistan has suffered tremendously because of him. It was his patriotic duty to report the CIA had asked for his assistance.

This is purely and truly a treason. Treason is not committed by just soldiers or politicians, each one us can charged with treason depending on the damage that one has inflicted on the nation

Justice should be done. He should be provided with an opportunity to explain his point of view and reasons. Maybe he was threatened and he did not have a choice.
As for his family,if they have no role in this then they should not be dragged into it.

Agreed, but his trial should be by a military court or specially formed court for treason by a civilian. If found guilty he should be hanged. No compromise no matter how Americans and West shout for clemency.
