Stephen Hawking, modern cosmology's brightest star, dies aged 76

Scientist Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76, a spokesman for his family has said.


Professor Hawking's children, Lucy, Robert and Tim said in a statement that he had died at his home in Cambridge in the early hours of Wednesday.


They said: "We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today.


"He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.


"His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world.


"He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.'


"We will miss him forever."


They asked for privacy but added their thanks to "everyone who has been by Professor Hawking's side and supported him - throughout his life".

The world famous physicist and cosmologist was the subject of the 2014 film The Theory Of Everything, which starred Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.


He also performed several cameos in the US comedy series The Big Bang Theory.


Hawking contracted motor neurone disease in 1963 and was given two years to live but he went on to study at Cambridge and became one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Albert Einstein.


He was given more than a dozen honorary degrees and was awarded the CBE in 1982.

For god's sake let's forego about his religious or non religious beliefs: That seems to be least important issue at this instance. However, if that makes someone happy, he was proclaimed atheist however he at times talked about the "Grand design of the Universe" , a commentary for which he was duly criticized to bring in something what was not part of the science. He was a theoretical cosmologist and let us remember him for his scientific works or reread 'A brief history of Time, though a bit dated (I learned that the book was translated in Urdu).

You are all born in 20th/21st Century Pakistan to Muslim parents. If you were born in India you would have been Hindu. If you were born 3000 years ago in Scandinavia you would be worshipping Thor. Just out of sheer chance you are born in a specific country in a specific religion and you are criticizing a man who spent his entire life to solving the mysteries of the universe, one of the most brilliant minds mankind's will ever see and you are blaming him for not sharing your superstitious beliefs. What if he's right and you are wasting your lives after something that has no scientific justification and is based entirely on faith. Faith by the way means believing something without any evidence. It would take either a childhood of brainwashing or a very low IQ to believe something based on Faith.

The highest percentage of Atheism among scientists belong to the departments of Evolutionary Biology, Cosmology and Physicists. Basically people who have a higher understanding of life and the universe. This is because every piece of evidence that they study points to a natural explanation rather than a supernatural one, it leaves no room or purpose for God and makes the existence of God highly unlikely.

Someone asked Professor Richard Dawkins that if he dies one day and realizes that God exists what will he say to God. He said I will ask him why he made such an effort to hide himself and plant evidence in the most devious and underhanded manner to lead us to believe that the world is only explained through natural processes.

So someone who believes in Quran also believes that a pedophile and rapist will eventually go to Heaven if he believes in Allah and repents in the end. But a person who spent his entire life serving humanity does not believe in Allah will go to hell without any exception.
