ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission secretary told the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday that 35 million unconfirmed names have been removed from the voter lists from the general elections of 2008.
Express 24/7 correspondent Faisal Shakeel said that the EC is adding 36 million votes according to data available to Nadra.
The secretary revealed this during the hearing of a petition seeking the revision of the electoral process.
Last month, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan filed a petition in the SC seeking a revision of electoral rolls and a reform of the electoral process.
Khan said that the recent revelation by the Election Commission that almost 44 per cent of registered voters are bogus votes made the status of the present assemblies and the government dubious.
Khan said that the purpose of filing the election petition was to force the government and the Election Commission under the directives of the apex court to prepare fresh electoral rolls eliminating all bogus votes and introducing and incorporating the new eligible votes that can be verified from the database and record of Nadra.
He suggested preparation of electoral roll in a manner that should include the name of a voter in such electoral area wherein his address mentioned on the CNIC of the voter exists.

Dual nationality holders not to become Parliamentarians
I believe it's good news that people who only holds Pakistani nationality allowed to take part in election to become parliamentarians.

Dual nationality holders barred from taking part in elections: ECP (Pakistan)

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared individuals with dual nationalities ineligible to take part in elections and has recommended that the government pass legislation in this regard, Geo News reported.

A meeting headed by Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (Retd.) Hamid Ali Mirza passed a resolution against individuals with dual nationality stating that they could not take part in elections to become members of parliament. It was also decided in the meeting that action against those who have fake degrees be sped up. The election commission also dismissed the reference submitted by Maulvi Iqbal Haider which sought to declare ANP Senators Haji Adeel and Zahid Khan ineligible.

A resolution was passed in the meeting which stated that a reference against a member can only be sent by Chairman Senate or the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Chief Justice said: Our nation has a dignity and there should also be free and fair elections. Photo on a voting list is must which will be matched with Nadra ID card at voting time.
