MAJOR General Asim Saleem Bajwa has taken over as Director General ISPR, in an environment, which is very challenging for the military and country. On the one side western medias orchestrated propaganda using ugly methods to tame the Pakistan army and for that matter the ISI is in fullswing while on the other anti Pakistan elements are out to bring a bad name for the armed forces despite the fact that they are on the forefront to defend the geographical and ideological frontiers of the motherland and giving unparalleled sacrifices, be they in FATA, Malakand and Swat, Siachen or during natural calamities.
In this situation, only professional organisation and highly trained officers can counter the negative propaganda and build a positive image of the armed forces. Unfortunately some elements within the country too advertantly or inadvertently join the chorus as they fall in the trap of the west and indulge in criticism in talk shows and articles forgetting the supreme sacrifices of the defenders of the motherland. Despite huge losses suffered by the armed forces in the fight against terrorism, the US continue to blame Pakistan for harbouring the Haqqani network and the print and electronic media in the West following the line, indulges in negative propaganda without verifying the facts. In this perspective the task of building a still better image of the armed forces and taking the nation along by rebutting the venomous propaganda of the enemy in the modern age of information boom is very challenging. But we are confident that well read and articulate General Asim Saleem Bajwa with the required expertise of holding command and staff positions, and qualities of head and heart will be able to handle the arduous task by living up to his reputation of a doer. Luckily he has a team of professional and experienced deputies who will certainly be helpful to the General in carrying out his supreme responsibilities through his usual cool and friendly attitude.
