I think he has shown that he doesn't have what it takes to lead the people yearning for change. He had an opportunity that fell in his lap out of nowhere but he squandered it because of his stupidity and his reliance on people who are no good. He is too old to learn anything new. His ways are set and from his rhetoric during he elections, which was full of cricket cliches, it showed that he was living off his world cup glory and had no grasp of the complex realities that are part of Pakistani politics.
A smart leader surrounds himself with capable men/women and then just leads them and channel the ideas coming from them. This guy had gathered hundreds of thousands and almost always you could count on him to deliver a mediocre speech which lacked substance and motivation. Instead of showing himself as a leader who rose above the crap that was all around he came across as a leader who was stuck in the low level politics. What we needed at time was someone who could have raised the level of discourse but he never came out of that low level politics.
He repeatedly fails even with the support that people showed for him and then admits that he was wrong but at the time he is always adamant that he is the only one who knows whats the best way. Remember he used to say that he knows how to build a team and how to win. Guess what he was the last person who could build a good team and who knew how to win in the political field.
If he was a real leader he would have stepped away and handed the leadership to some other young people and would have been involved at a very high level or just as a figurehead but its very hard for political leaders in pakistan and IK is not immune to it.
