New Samsung patent turns your hand into a keyboard

It’d be fair to say that Google is a front runner in the wearable technology market, spear-headed by the currently unrivalled Google Glass project. However it now looks as though Samsung is about to give the search giant a run for its money with something called Galaxy Glass.

A patent for the aforementioned technology has just appeared online which, from what we can tell so far outlines some clever augmented reality tech that will work in a similar way to Google Glass but will provide users with increased functionality.

So what exactly does ‘increased functionality’ mean I hear you ask? Well one use is to enable users to project an interactive image onto any surface. For example if you wanted to whack out a message to someone, Galaxy Glass would be able to turn your hands (or anything else big enough for that matter) into a keyboard. From there you can just use your thumbs to press on a specific part of your digit to get typing. Confused? Check out the images below.
We’re not entirely sure how this all works but we can only assume that the glasses use the camera to project the augmented reality image onto your chosen surface, and then tracks any movement over that image to work out what to input.

Apparently the patent was filed last year, so we suspect that those crafty Koreans have already been giving this a go. If it does come to market, we do hope they consider some form of swype integration as it doesn’t half make typing easier.

There’s not a huge amount out there about Galaxy Glass at the moment, but we don’t expect it to stay that way for long. If the technology does get out of Samsung labs we expect it’ll arrive some time this year. Watch out Google.

This was what I was thinking some ten years ago that a day will come
when we will be looking at our hands will do all functions what the key board
can do.
