Nice job in a summary but there are many more factors that enter into this equation.

Trade deficit, disciplined and educated work force, maintaining ballance between supply and demand, responsible government, presence of natural resources. These are also major factors.

Nice Post.

You said, if you had kept 3 rupees from 20 years, it would have lost 1/7 th of its value. I think it is around 6/7 th proportion of valued would lost....is n't it?
You added a sentence saying... thanks to bhutto's socialist policies? well here I have conflict of understanding, as Bhutto went for nationalization of industries, so was that action worth appreciations? Certainly not, even Dr. Mubashar Hasan acknowledged his mis-handling in that regard. It was like shoot on one's own foot. Nationalize industry was nothing but losing inefficiency of industry and losing two decades. Bhutto might be a heroic figure in politics, but his role and understanding in economics was not worth penny. I cannot appreciate his actions. His land reforms were even big fiasco, a big defeat, total failed drama. Alas! if he would have been serious in it. Even after country came to half of her real size in 1970s.

Oo you're absolutely right! Thanks had a sarcastic connotation. Bhutto was an Economic train-wreck. Here's how I like to think about Nationalization or Central planning - Every time I have rented a car or a DVD movie, I have used it in a rough manner than my personal belonging. The underlying key is OWNERSHIP. Its the key to efficient usage of resources. If its mine, I will take care of it much better. Private Enterprise is key to a Nation's success. Look at China today and compare it to the US. China is doing much better. Today US is giving a bad name to Capitalism.

About the ratio. Whats the price of Pepsi these days? Last time it was there, i think it was Rs 20. Same bottle costed 3 bucks. 3/20.. about 1/7th. value ... wait. lol. you're right! lol. Ok. Now where do you want me to send you my worthless dollar bill? ;)

Thanks again for the correction!
