We had similar kind of food street place in lahore but unfortunately it got shutdown by our current high blood pressure CM of Punjab. This moron has done nothing but shutting down the old projects developed or initiated by the previous government. I missed that place during my vist to Pakistan early this year. It used to be one of the best place to visit in Lahore, especially if you are single but it is not there anymore...
I am not a supporter or lover of PPP but I still wana give some credit to the current Sindh Government, atleast they didn't put any hurdles or try to shut down this beautiful project which was initiated by the previous Government.

i will defintely visit this place during my next visit to karachi !!!!!!!!!!

Finalle, after a delay of almost a year, the most awaited project Port Grand Food Street was inaugurated by Karachi's unsung hero Gov. Sindh Dr. Ishrat Ibad[also responsible to keep this project from getting abandoned] today on 28th May 2011, its a fantastic place. I'd like to request all Pakistanis especially residents of Karachi to please visit this place[for leisurely activities] built for them and mske it a grand success to ensure more innovative projects such as this one are launched for Pakiistanis in the future.

Hi

Food Street in Lahore was in an old market near Gawalmandi. Its beauty was that food street like that can be nowhere.
Whereas this new food street in Karachi is in a new building and looks very beautiful.
I never went Karachi but now I will have to visit Karachi.(bigsmile)

Well done Corporation and/or MQM if you had any share of development.

But, here again, Rs200 entry fee. This will keep out poor people. This is making a division between haves and have-nots.

This looks awesome, I am stunned, though there is nothing new for me to see these kind of projects, but most wonderful thing is to believe that this has happened in my home town. Thumbs up, whatever snaps coverage has made possible for us to look, it has been great.

I went to the place today, it is an amazing place, and I thank Shahid Feroz [CEO Grand Leisure, the man behind the idea of this project], MQM minister ports & shipping Babar Ghauri for giving this project the go-ahead and especially Gov. Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad for ensuring this project got completed for Karachiites, as it was almost shut down and got abandoned after PPP took power in 2008. The ticket is Rs.300, with Rs.100 for the entry plus Rs.200 for the eateries and refreshments listed on it. Work is still going on, although complete they've yet to open the Loop and the adjoining area along the circular structure but they've completed the rest of the project, galleria[shopping mall], temple point, napier's tavern leading to its most gorgeous attraction, the bridge over the sea providing scenic views of the port where all the restaurants and stalls are located. The food street experience was fantastic, but what I felt later was that there mite be problems in Pakistan, but there are Pakistanis like Shahid Feroz and Mustafa Kamal who surprise us with their vision and make us hopeful and proud.

It is a touch expensive, but this project took over 6 years, it was suppose to complete in 2009, but when this jamhuriyat came and economic problems started, industries of Pakistan shifted to Nepal and Bangladesh, inflation jumped and remained in double figures, this project was almost abandoned, as the cost of it doubled and it feasibility was called into question. This project surviving is a kind of a miracle. Only families are allowed entry, and it is a place where all Pakistanis whether civilian or not, rich or not have access to, it is a lot better than the previous places in Karachi where middle or lower class Pakistani citizen had no access rich membership restricted resorts like Dreamworld, country clubs or askaris where not only poor but civilians are not allowed to go pray in a mosque located inside the cantt premises.
