Talat Hussein ki bolti band ho gayi!!!
You don't have to believe us...We don't have to give you the money...
Spot on contra, that was a masterstroke from Hillary.
Firstly, take the wax out of your ears. May be you guys have been listening to indian media too long, which always uses "manufactured" facts in its stories. If there are no manufactured facts in what you indians are listening to then your hearing ability "creates" convenient audio bytes that you prefer to hear. Or may be, as I have stated earlier, no one in the show had a ridiculously pathetic indian accent, perhaps that is why you couldn't understand the spirit of the interaction and didn't hear the audio properly.
Hillary did not say you don't have to believe "us". Instead she said, you don't have to believe "it". Meaning Kerry-lugar bill. The word US would have been a diplomatic failure for her. Also she already had stated that the US had made mistakes in the past and in the current times. The current mistake is the communication of the kerry-lugar bill. Wording is a problem, as already mentioned and accepted by the US ambassador in Pakistan. Hence Talat Hussain was right to address the issue and was not being over-negative and aggressive. He was raising the point with which even the US diplomats agreed. By doing so Talat Hussain (via Clinton's debatable response) has furthered his argument that US does not care. He raised this issue on his subsequent show in supporting his argument. He simply has reinforced the sentiment of the majority of the people in pakistan regarding the kerry-lugar bill. The response was not a diplomatic success for Hillary.
Furthermore, Talat Hussain is probably the shrewdest journalist and anchor with in south asia. A very distant second is Karan Thapar. In general Pakistan has better anchors than India. Bharka Dutt and other Indian anchors hardly let their guests speak and always cut-off the people who don't agree with them. Unlike Pakistani anchors.
For this particular interview, Talat was not allowed to make a response to Hillary's comments because there were other anchors to take turns. Otherwise Talat would have grilled her. As evident from his very last question when hillary was finding excuses for not having a strategy for Afghanistan. Talat Hussain has simply reported the factual trust deficit b/w pakistan and USA. The main reason behind the deficit among other things is hat USA in lots of occasions has not kept its words.
Also, the spirit of the interview was to create a bridge of communication and sell USA. Not to shut up anyone. Although Hilary did a great job in building a bridge but USA will be a hard sell in Pakistan. It will be only possible if USA backs its words with actions. Talk is cheap.
Lastly, Pakistan media does not beat around the bush unlike the indian media. Does not create superficial admiration. Pakistani media is upfront with Hillary's effort. They have admired her effort but at the same time recognize the fact that there is a lot work that needs to be done. This is very unlike indian media which tells the clintons that there is something about india that alwasy draws them to the country and then they answer yes. Being ceremonial is great but unfortunately, I am not aware of any personal visits made by the clintons to india. It always had to be business.
Do you really want to know what Hillary thinks of India and Indians? Enjoy the following clip (If you indians don't mind, I'll create a separate thread for the rest of the forum, so that they know how high the US diplomats' opnion is re India and Indians):
