Underground coal gasification

I saw the interview of Dr Samar Mubarakmand in which he told that he is working on our coal mines and with new techonology he will convert the underground coal into gas and after getting gas out of mine that gas will be converted into electricity.
I have a question, is there any example of creation of electricity this way anywhere in the world.
If any fellow knows please share it.
