Prime Minister (20k+ posts)
Dear Friends,
I am posting this piece without writer's permission hopefuly he will forgive me the copy rights infringment.
I have a humble question to all the members who are siding with old and time tested politicians and political parties. In Alberta Alison Redford, the Chief Minister misused small amount of government resources like Govt. planes for personal use and every single person now criticizes her, not only media, but her own party members, who are frantically trying to distance themselves from her, to the point that she first had to resign as a premier and now as a simple member of assembly. Mind you she resigned as premier when allegations against her surfaced and not after a "judicial commission" gave verdict against her. Even after Auditor General's report against her excesses she still has not been convicted of wrong doing. This is the level of accountability and this is what makes us trust and be happy in this system.
While in Pakistan Imran Khan was demanding justice for 14 months and putting forward grave allegations against government with evidence (however unproven or questionable) and govt. ministers were ridiculing him, laughing at him, taunting him and brushing him aside, and finally hiding behind stay orders or manipulating NADRA to cover up their tracks . Now that he has finally gone to masses. Why are learned people, who are living in a country where such allegations stir up a political storm so much so that leaders have not only to resign but to announce that they are leaving political career for ever (referring to Redford again), supporting Nawaz Sharif and his age old henchmen politicians. Not that my or anyone else's support on this forum matters to what is going on in Pakistan. But what I would seriously like to understand is how are you guys defending the likes of Molana Fazlur Rehman, Nawaz sharif, Zardari, and so on who have all banded together to save whatever power, influence, clout and money they have accumulated over the course of decades.
Imran Khan may fail or he may have ulterior motives of power grab etc., which remains to be seen but why not give him a chance? and do not for a second believe that the elections in 2013 were the most fair and cleanest elections of all time as election commission, former CJ and other parties claim. At best it would have split 50/50 and at worst Imran Khan had the clear majority at most seats.
If I allege that you have stolen my property then how can I accept that you appoint someone to investigate, and decide on the matter? Isnt that a simple conflict of interest? How can Sharif brothers, with their track record, let any hope of justice sprout? They would quash it as they quashed the NADRA chairman Tariq Malik.
In conclusion I fail to understand the people on this forum, obviously well read, well-educated and learned, who vehemently defend all other political parties (United they stand!) and scathingly oppose Imran Khan. I dont understand but I respect your views. We have a choice to live life as we want. If you want to live in the same system, same political dynasties and under the same rules of the game (powerful and influential get everything and get away with everything) then it is your choice (obviously it means that it suits you or you see some benefit in it). But for me I would give a chance to that symbol of hope, symbol of change, Imran Khan. Does anyone seriously believe that Nawaz Sharif or Zardari are symbol of change (as others have no chance to come to power anyway, but they can gain lot of benefits by becoming symbiots to the Sharifs and Zardaris/bhuttos and parasites to this poor nation). Yes they are a symbol of change, definitely. A very hellish and nightmarish change!
Not to say that I am wiser or braver or more patriotic than you. I am a coward because I took the easy route and get myself and my family out of that lawless place we call Pakistan, my country, the first chance I could. I am happy despite many issues but at least I am glad that I am not in a lawless jungle any more.
Keep believing and supporting the "band of brothers" and keep criticizing, doubting, ridiculing Imran Khan. It is your choice and I am sure you will not have regrets at any time later on as well as it seems you are pretty satisfied in putting your weight in the other camp. What a camp it is! Sharif mafia, Zarda tola, Molana diesel, Anti Pakistan ANP, Violent and target killer MQM and so on. Good Luck with them.
