Im sorry...but is it not possible for the police to set up a wider perimeter, and stay away from the inner perimeter? What impression do the players get from seeing armored vehicles laced with gun toting men? are they playing in AFghanistan or Iraq?

Are they going to play a cricket match or going to war?
This is crazy to have a match after spending so much resources but to what end?
This basically amplifies the message to the outside world that Pakistan is not safe for sports because you need a military battalion to keep you safe.
I am sure that these people are being compensated heavily for them to come to Pakistan.
Instead of staging these stunts they should spend these resources to "actually" make Pakistan safe and avoid creating these shows to create false sense of security.
This is nothing but a stunt.

What do YOU suggest, we just give up any hope of ever hosting any international cricket in Pakistan.
Do you honestly think any team will ever come to Pakistan without adequate security.
Acknowledge the fact that this is the ONLY way we can have International standard sports in Pakistan

Bro, you are missing the point I am making.
This is the Pakistani way of "fixing problems."
Why do you think that teams don't visit Pakistan? I am sure that they are offered ample security arrangements.
Its that countries' don't trust Pakistani security and know the corruption and incompetence which raises doubts in their minds
about safety and security.
Its been almost 16-17 years since we are having terrorist incidents and we can still say that nothing has really changed.
Terrorists can still hit whenever they want and the outside world knows it.
There are bigger issues than putting up a fake show to give false sense of "all is good now" with thousands of security personnel guarding the players as if they are crown jewels. Is this normal? Thats what sports are all about?
We need to set priorities and not try to put the cart before the horse. We need to seriously address the security issue and then sports events will follow and we will not have to "stage" these events to send these wrong messages.
Do we have the resources to spend on these matches for a full tour? Who foots the bill? Would that be paid by the PCB or the government and eventually be paying for the security because someone like idiot sethi can claim that he "brought international cricket back to Pakistan" - which is a stupid statement anyways.
As with most things in Pakistan this is upside down.
Pakistanis have more issues to deal with than international teams visiting Pakistan. Our resources will be better spent focusing on those underlying issues instead of staging this farce.
Bottom line is after seeing these videos do you think that things have returned to "normal"? Who in their right mind evaluating the security will think that normalcy has returned and they can visit? I can tell you right now that apart from SL and WI and may be just may be SA - no other team like Australia, England, India, NZ will visit Pakistan for the foreseeable future because they see the reality on the ground and will not be swayed by this stunt.

How many generations will miss out before Pakistan is deemed safe. This game is taking place because Pakistan is safe............ even though the security is what it takes.
Perhaps the incomes generated from ALL sources can pay for this level of security........ eventually

Bring it back by improving overall security situation that will make people feel safe to visit pakistan to play and watch sports. Simple!
Its a game of perception. Pakistan is viewed unsafe because we see the evidence on the ground that there is no real sense of security.
Tell me how many times have you heard that real threats or attacks have been thwarted? And, we are at this fight for 16-17 years. Even SL
was perceived a safer place to visit during the Tamil insurgency because they were serious about security.
There were attacks in UK - some major ones but people don't feel as much threatened because people know that the security forces are proactive, competent and incorruptible with the utmost goal of keeping the populace safe and secure. In Pakistan you tell me if people feel the same way.
People would consider themselves safe because they feel that they are lucky and not because anything our security establishment is doing. Our solution to most problems is throwing numbers at it. Like we are doing now by deploying thousands to show that it is so safe with all these people in these pickup trucks with guns.
Why not just make real efforts to make it safe? The game is taking place because there is a perception that Pakistan is not safe because of the incompetence and corruption that is rife. There is a reason that Pakistan doesn't have embassies and consulates functioning normally, or that there are not many foreign airlines that fly to Pakistan or there are not many tourists that you see freely and safely roaming the cities of Pakistan. This game is taking place because stupid sethi wanted some accolades that he "brought international cricket back to Pakistan" by throwing thousands of gun carrying personnel at the problem. As I said we tried this before. We have seen movie before - no teams were coming to Pakistan and then we convinced SL to come by offering them money and security and you know what happened? yes, they were attacked in broad day light in the city of Lahore where the attackers walked away calmly after killing many - it was a miracle that the SL players were safe. And, to this day we don't know who carried out that attack and were never able to catch those people. How is that for assurance for people who want to come play a game of cricket?
To what end? I don't think that for a full tour with this kind of security the money generated by the sale of tickets and ads will pay for the security.

Its just the elites and stupid people in charge of this country that makes it hard to support their confused and stupid actions :-)

A good show, but as my brother pointed out earlier, if we lobbied better, maybe a single police car would be enough to tell players the reality. That Pakistan is a safe country. 16-17 years were enough time to fix the police.
Najm Sethi mentioned that the organisers have hired a private security consultant firm to convince the players to come to Pakistan. The cost of this firm alone will eat up most of the revenue from this match. He went ahead because this will give a positive image of Pakistan.
My observation, if the politicians were sincere with the country, there were much easier ways to give a positive image.
