You dont have to classify yourself as Shia in order to be exempted from automatic zakat deduction at banks. Accouint applications only ask whether you want zakat deducted or not. And if not, all you have to do is sign a form saying you dont want your zakat deducted.

Its a stupid method of deducting zakat. Public pays far mre in zakat on its own. Govt just wants to bloat its coffers. We never know w hat happens with zakat money collected at govt level.
