ISLAMABAD: Some 53 illegal Pakistani migrants arrived at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) in Islamabad after being deported from Greece. Around 500 Pakistanis are currently detained in Turkey and awaiting processing of their deportation papers.
The deportees arrived aboard private airline, EK-612, on Thursday morning. After scrutinising their travel documents, they were handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
EU deal: Greece deports Pakistani migrants
The fresh arrival of deportees from Greece is part of deportation of illegal migrants from Europe.
According to FIA, 43 of the deportees were shifted to Gujranwala, five to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and five to Islamabad. Officials added that these migrants had entered Greece illegally and that they will be handled as per the FIA’s standard operating procedures.
Pakistanis detained in Turkey
According to Ansar Burney Trust (ABT), as many as 500 Pakistani immigrants, who were expelled from Greece, are currently languishing at a deportation centre in Kayseri Merkez, Turkey.
Burney, in a plea to Turkish authorities, said that these immigrants have not been provided basic necessities like food and water.

EU warns of tough action against Pakistani migrants

ATHENS: The European Union’s migration commissioner has welcomed the departure of first refugees from Greece under an EU relocation scheme aimed at easing the burden on countries bearing the brunt of Europe’s migrant crisis, but warned that the bloc is going to get tough on migrants who are simply seeking a better life rather than fleeing conflict.
Dimitris Avramopoulos said on Wednesday that he was set to visit Pakistan soon to discuss plans to send back Pakistani migrants who had made their way to Europe.
Mr Avramopoulos was at the airport here to see off the 30 Syrians and Iraqis heading to Luxembourg to start new lives.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn were also there to greet the six families who were to fly out from the airport under the plan meant to share out nearly 160,000 migrants across the bloc.
The families appeared very happy to be leaving, smiling widely as they stood on the tarmac at the airport.
Mr Tsipras said the families, who were chosen because they were considered vulnerable, were making “a trip to hope”, but warned that they were merely “a drop in the ocean” compared to the hundreds of thousands who had arrived on European shores this year.
“Today they have the opportunity to make a trip to hope, to a better life,” he said. “It’s a drop in the ocean, but we hope the drop will become a stream and then a river of humanity.”
At least 80 migrants, including many children, have died in the last week while trying to sail from Turkey to Lesbos and other Greek islands in rough weather.
On Tuesday, four more migrants, including two children, drowned after their boat got into difficulty off Lesbos.
“The human sacrifice that shames European civilisation must stop,” Mr Tsipras said.
He added that the registration and relocation process should begin in Turkey, from where some 200,000 migrants set sail for Greece in October alone, according to the UN refugee agency.
“Greece is not the gateway; Turkey is the gateway,” the Greek prime minister said.
A Greek asylum service official said the group leaving Athens on Wednesday comprised two Iraqi and four Syrian families, with a total of 16 children. One of the women is pregnant and two of the children are disabled.
Upon arrival in Luxembourg, the families will spend two days in a registration centre and then two or three months in homes.
The welfare service will then help them to find permanent accommodation, schools and jobs.
A total of 87 Eritreans and Syrians left Italy under the relocation scheme last month, bound for Sweden and Finland.

[h=1]Europe to Return Thousands of Illegal Pakistani Migrants[/h]

[h=2]Europe will return tens of thousands of illegal Pakistani migrants, according to Dimitris Avramopoulos, the European commissioner for Migration, Home affairs and Citizenship, who made theannouncement in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.[/h]The ostensible reason Avramopoulos gave for returning the illegal migrants was that Pakistan functions under a “democratic process,” unlike Syria and Afghanistan, which are riven with strife and whose governments have no democratic process. Avramopoulos said:
Pakistanis will not qualify as political refugees. Pakistan is under a democratic process. … It is not a country where its citizens are persecuted, and great progress has been done by authorities in Pakistan in order to pave a democratic perspective for their country.
Officials claim that less than 20 percent of Pakistani illegal migrants are granted asylum in Europe; Eurostat alleges that 168,000 illegal Pakistani migrants were supposed to be deported from the European Union between 2008 and 2014, but only 55,750 actually left, due to a paucity of flights, bureaucratic delays, and lack of enforcement. European Union nations signed an accord with Islamabad in 2009 allowing Europe to repatriate illegal Pakistani migrants.
Until Avramopoulos’ visit, Pakistani authorities were unhappy about the proposed return of the migrants; as late as last week, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said Pakistani airlines would not aid the repatriation process. Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan accused E.U. states of laxity in confirming the refugees’ nationalities, asserting, “We cannot accept those Afghans, Bangladeshi, Burmese and Indians as Pakistani citizens who manage to get fake documents by the virtue of a bribe.” Khan also expressed anger that some of the refugees were accused of having terrorist ties, adding, “This is tantamount to insulting Pakistanis and humanity.”
After the Avramopoulos visit, according to one Interior Ministry official, “Both sides agreed that Pakistani deportees would be sent back to Pakistan … under a comprehensive procedure acceptable to both sides.”
The return of the illegal refugees will not terminate the flow of legal Pakistani migrants to Europe; roughly 50,000 Pakistanis emigrate to Europe every year.
Despite the claim that Pakistan utilizes a democratic system, claims have been made of the government severely persecuting some citizens; one illegal migrant from Pakistan toldDeutsche Welle:
