Well, Fawad has come up with some texts of the American leadership and its activities during the 1971 war which he dugged out from the American state department Archives( I do not know how much of that is true !!! ) My question is very simple and addressed to him. Why is it that after helping Pakistan during the past 50 or 60 years, by providing much needed aid, Arms to fight and dollars to support, Pakistan is still not able to become a vialble country with strong economy ? Why the peoples of Pakistan still do not like American policies and hate their aid ? To answer the first question, the Aid which Americans were providing to Pakistan never reach the ordinary Pakistanis. Either it went to the bank accounts of the leadership or went to the bank accounts of the Army Generals who had taken over the Government and running the country as dictators fully supported by American Government. knowing very well that the support in terms of dollars and its benefits were not reaching to the common Pakistanis, they never bother to hold the Governments accountable ( mostly dictators) to ensure the presumed benefits reach to the poor people of Pakistan. Now , you can turn around and say that it is the responsibility of the Government of Pakistan to ensure the distribution of the aid reach where it meant to, however, it was not a secret that since leadership was totally sold out to the Americans and money was diverted ( in some cases without even reaching pakistan) to the swiss accounts of the Army generals and others, Americans looked at other way as long as their demands were being fulfilled by the Pakistani dictators.

The perception of the Government of America does not depend on soely to its financial support to country, But their overall behaviour is also very important. What Pakistani felt that American install their stooges in higher leadership and keep supporting dictators one after another for their own interest ( Afghanistan), while completely ignoring the state of the people in the country who were denied opportunities and were strangled by Institutions like IMF and others which runs on the dictation of the western countries including USA.

Their behaviour towards Muslims after 911 also played a big part in shaping the opinion of Pakistanis. On the one hand they see, American support every dictator who took the control of Government in Pakistan, and on the other hand, American stood side by side with Isreali Governemnt and helped its policies and protected the Governement in UNO and other international forums. If one can only count the numbers of times American vetoed the security counsel resolutions against Isreal. Obviously, these policies have a long time effects and it is very difficult for people like Fawad to present a Good image of USA in this forum and others, even though this is the reason Fawad and others have an access to the resources and the funds.

Dear,
Although Mr. Fawad can never convince me with what he has in his tank but here I would also like to differ with you with all respect. Distribution of funds is not the responsibility of US instead its mine and yours and our Government. If every one can see that funds were going out of country and were for leaders only then why are we electing these people again and again???? We are more than 80% responsible for what is happening to us right now.......
First we get aid from US which in reality we get because we sell our army to them and our army fight for them (Whether it was the then USSR or Taliban) and then we are complaining that US is not looking after the distribution of funds??? Come on Dude!!!! Leave something for me and you too.... Leave some blame for us too........
Of course US is the biggest devil but we are also not angels.............

What a shame, the yellow journalists have endangered the aid workers it is another attempt by Taliban to malign development agencies who are actually working in areas such as education, health and capacity building. Who gave them the right to publish the name and Nic of these people and slander them?

Circular sent to provinces for stopping movement of banned outfits: Malik

Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik has said that a circular has been sent to provinces for stopping the movement of banned outfits and 1762 people belonging to banned outfits 726 are from South Punjab. Talking to media infront of the Parliament House on Friday, the Interior Minister emphasized that Federal and provinces should work collectively for the elimination of the menace of terrorism. He said that an important meeting of provinces has been convened to dismantle the network of terrorists, adding all provinces have been directed to monitor the activities of banned outfits. Responding to a question, the minister said: "Terrorists wants to destabilize the country but the government would not allow them to succeed in their nefarious designs. The Interior Minister said that steps are being taken to remove reservations about the security of the Parliament House and Parliament Lodges. He said that every one has the right to protest but no one would be allowed to challenge the writ of the government. On situation in Karachi, the minister said that criminal elements there are trying to show their power, adding peace would be established in Karachi at any cost. Praising the role of Pakistan Army in operation against terrorists, Rehman Malik said that action would be taken, if government's writ is challenged in any part of the country. Meanwhile, the Federal Interior Minster while speaking in Senate has challenged the survey of Transparency International on corruption. Rehman Malik while casting doubt on the report said it is a conspiracy against Pakistan as it was released before starting of negotiations with IMF. On gang war in Liayri, the minister said that operation against criminal elements has been started and groups involved in criminal activities would be eliminated. Answering a question, the minister said that inquiry has been ordered against police torture on employees and women who protested in Islamabad. Casting doubts on the integrity of the Transparency International (TI), Interior Minister Rehman Malik Friday rejected its report as vague and fictitious saying it has not used desired and set international tools for the survey. The government stands for transparency in all fields of life and the report of the report of the Transparency International regarding increasing corruption in Pakistan is vague and fictitious, the Minister said to points of orders raised by the Senators here on Friday. Transparency International (TI), in its recent report on corruption perception in Pakistan, has said that corruption in the country has increased as compared to the last year. The report also noted that the menace has seen a decreasing trend in Punjab, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) has remained on top in financial corruption. The report was however, immediately rejected by KPK information minister, saying We reject the report. The Interior Minister said the TI cannot be trusted because desired and set international tools have not been used in the survey.

Obviously one can easily make that aurgument and I also mentioned in my post, The very nature of this relationship was never on the bases of equity and respect. And it could never be the one because one is begger and other is giver. It really amaze me some time when we argue that the people of Pakistan should take their resposibilty. when was a chance given to the real public to elect their chosen leadership freely ? none of these elections which took place in Pakistan were transparent.there is always a degree of rigging in every elections ,in some areas it is on the greater extend and other on a smaller extend.I wish if Pakistan has a system of governess which really works. There is none. The one we have got so many holes that it becomes a swiss cheese. What do you think an average Pakistani do ? commit suicide is only option and it is being done right across the country. Those who are in power would never let it go.There has to be a bigger revolution which is required to clean up the slate.Only the time will tell if Pakistani people find themselves strong enough to rise and start one..... I doubt it very much, but I am optimistically hopeful.

Time for Punjab to wake up and smell the coffee

SALMAN-MASOOD.jpg

The writer is an Islamabad-based journalist whose reports frequently appear in The New York Times. ([email protected])

Punjab is under scrutiny once again after the deadly terrorist attacks on the Ahmadis in Lahore. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been trading barbs with Governor Salman Taseer over extremism and militancy for quite some time.
The latest entrant in the verbal boxing ring is Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who has said that the recent attacks were carried out by the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. He also initially hinted, but later backtracked, some sort of government operation would be carried out in the southern parts of the province. Mr Sharif is, understandably, upset at the increasing cast of characters who doubt what he still considers his legendary administrative skills. He considers any criticism on his ways of governance to be politically motivated meddling into his turf. That said, south Punjab continues to make headlines after each terror incident. These districts have remained dismally impoverished with an abundance of madrassahs and outfits like the Sipah-i-Sahaba, the LeJ and the Jaish-i-Muhammad have strong networks there.
However, Mr Sharifs gripe over the nomenclature of the militants is rather trivial though he is half right in stressing that south Punjab is not the only hotbed of militancy. A military style operation there would only complicate and further exacerbate the issue. But that does not mean that for reasons of political expediency a state of denial should blind those at the helm of affairs.
Militant networks of all stripes and their nexus with local groups exist all across the province.
The Punjab of 2010 is different from that of the 1990s and Mr Sharif seems to have lost the magical touch through which he controlled the province in that decade. He should fast come to terms with changing ground realities. Sectarian outfits continue to operate openly and the writ of the provincial government is weak in the backwaters. The militants are emboldened and highly motivated. In these circumstances, appeasement or co-opting the extremist elements would further give them opportunities to further their agendas and occupy more public space. Both the PML-N and the PPP are guilty of relying on clandestine support of extremist groups to garner electoral victories. PML-N managed to woo Sipah-i-Sahaba in the by-elections in Jhang. This is thanks to the pragmatism and financial incentives offered by Rana Sanaullah, the provincial law minister. Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhyanvi, the chief of the Sipah-i-Sahaba, in an interview given recently to a TV channel has already stated that his workers supported Jamshed Dasti, the PPP candidte, in Muzaffargarh. Sipah-e-Sahaba is now lending support to PML-N candidate Nighma Mushtaq in Jalalpur Pirwala district by elections.
If Mr Sharif is concerned that a tough clampdown on these militant groups would result in throwing the province down the inferno, he might also consider the fires that are already raging and spreading fast.

The title of this thread should be:

PPP Central Representative Abida Hussain Proposes Drone attacks on Southern Punjab because of security failure.

Then next she would be asking for Drone attacks on Karachi because of huge security failure resulting in the death of 1000's of innocent civilians !!!

" Punjab is under scrutiny once again after the deadly terrorist attacks on the Ahmadis in Lahore."

ONLY because Ahmedis got killed. How about other 8000 Pakistanis massacred so far just in drone attacks, cross firing, fighting with the army, suicide bombing?

Ahmedis are important because they are supported by US/India/UK and head quartered in Jaruslum.

On a serious note, there is no doubt that militancy should be checked no matter where it is. Anywhere in Pakistan, where ever militancy is present, there should be an operation but not a ''proper'' Military operation. The way the current operations are being launched, its creating more and more problems by every passing day. An Operation should be launched like the Operation in Karachi. A ''proper'' Military Operation is not the solution however it doesnt mean that there should be no operation at all. An operation similar to the one conducted in Karachi is needed to bring peace in FATA and sort out the hardcore militants. In Karachi, the operation was led by the Police aided by Rangers (Paramilitary organization) and Intelligence agencies played a major role, hence peace was established. Similarly, in FATA an operation should be conducted led by police and mainly the Frontier Constabulary ( A Paramilitary law enforcement agency) , aided by the FC (Frontier Corps, again paramilitary) and intelligence agencies again should play a major role. All the hardcore militants should be brought to justice and peace should be restored. This should also be done in Punjab where ever and whenever it is required. In Panjab again, Panjab Police and Rangers are available with strong intelligence netwrok to sort this out. And such an operation should be launched immediatley to sort out the militant network.
