There is an other side to the story also. Since US wants fast re-deployment of its active forces from the region and needs more space to re-line-up for Iran, they want Pakistan to be rendered totally harmless in event of their conflict with Iran. They don't want Pakistan to stand because it will only incite Muslim Ummah and wake up muslims all over the world, give them courage and moral boost to declare Jihad against zionist designs. Thats why all those explanations have been coming about considering Jihad very euphemistic and respecting mujahideen ...

I think coming year is gonna be proved even bloodier for Pakistan ... (I can't have a heavier heart analysing this) ... but still it does not mean that we will be taken. Only when we are turned into a wilderness, thats when the real battle begins. All the things that our governments have been throwing under the carpet for 62+ years are bringing out their color in our society now. People want their rights and if they get their rights by welcoming US, Taliban or any such rule, they won't hesitate to. The only thing that matters is "will they get their rights ? or will they lose whatever little identification they already have ?"

Since we are not ready to foresee or sense that danger ... it will only be established when it happens and when it happens not much will be left.
I think Palestinians should thank Israel for taking their homes away and bombing them into rubles so that US ball-lickers should declare them peaceful and not terrorists.
I think Iraqis should thank US for turning the heat on them with their media-propagated hype of WMDs, and thank them further for giving them charity to rebuild some buildings American bombers have destroyed so that they are not termed as Jihadists but are labeled as moderates.
I think Iran should roll back its atomic plan, kneel down before US and Israel and apologize for whatever banter they have had ensued against them.
I think Pakistan should turn their military into a para-medical force who would only go on famine-hit missions assigned to them by UN in Somalia, Ethiopia, Haiti, Nigeria or other african nations.

I mean we MUST spend as many days and as many nights we could watching tvs, having our regular meals, enjoying the comforts of our homes ... as many as we can ... until we are awakened rudely from our dreams and then wait for UN rationing trucks to come and drop us a few sacks of raw grains over which we should fight like dogs ....... duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Very inspiring!! What are you taking for your health these days? You need help big time!!

Yes ofcourse. The US is totally sincere to bring peace in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the whole world. The USA stands for everything good and all those who say otherwise just talk rubbish.

USA stand for good

wow. get some treatment for your hatred against Panjab.

You are mssing the point. The point is not that its about Panjab. The point is that USA and India want Pakistan to start operation all over Pakistan. They started with FATA, moved on to Khyber Pakhtoonkha and now Panjab. Pakistan is being pushed to a civil war. First sort out your ''hatred towards Panjab'' issue and then think about it with whatever brain you have.

Half brain can only see half picture!!

Interior motives

rehmanmalikNA_app608.jpg

It was only a matter of time before the Punjab rulers would react again to the insinuations thrown their way. Last week Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif could contain himself no more and took on the federal interior minister over whether (south) Punjab needed a (military) operation to purge the militants.

Mr Sharif accused Interior Minister Rehman Malik of conspiring to trigger a clash among provinces a day after Mr Malik had hinted at the need for a grand-scale military action to root out militants in south Punjab. The chief ministers counter-attack was no emotional outburst at some public rally. His answer to Mr Malik came in the form of a written statement issued by his office in Lahore. All the more reason for readers to take it as the considered opinion of the Punjab chief executive?

On the strength of this statement, what has apparently upset the government in Punjab more is the repeated reference to the Punjabi Taliban a tag that has disturbed not only official circles, but people in Punjab generally for one reason or another. Terrorism had no language and no religion, and that was why nobody ever mentioned Pashtu (sic), Sindhi or Baloch Taliban, the chief minister said in his rebuttal to Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

In his statement the Punjab chief minister took a jab at President Asif Ali Zardari by meaningfully suggesting that Mr Malik couldnt have been conspiring without the blessings of his political guru. And suddenly, the PPP ministers who have been occupying posts in the Punjab cabinet led by PML-N realised how shabbily Shahbaz had been treating them.

The PPP offensive, led in the absence of a more capable politician by senior minister Punjab Raja Riaz, highlighted the chasm that exists between Islamabad and Lahore on the issue of law and order (read militancy).

On previous occasions when the PPP had been moved by circumstances to criticise the Punjab government it is forcibly a part of, the partys complaints would usually relate to how it was being denied its rightful share of ministries and a say in postings and transfers, etc.

This time the senior provincial minister saw merit in specifically commenting that the PPP ministers in the province were never invited to official briefings on law and order. His aim seemingly was to remind all onlookers that the PML-N wanted to keep its ideas and ideals on law and order a closely guarded secret.

This is not a new situation. A clash between the two coalition partners cum rivals has appeared imminent on many occasions in the last couple of years. After the media has been allowed to speculate for a while, the two sides have been persuaded to maintain the status quo in the greater interest of democracy. Quite often, this re-reconciliation has been preceded by a call by Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani to the all-powerful Sharifs. Maybe this is how the current row will also end. Maybe not, given the flurry of statements by Rehman Malik in which he has insisted on the veracity of his figures on militants in Punjab.

Mr Malik and his PPP government are not exactly known for making sensible evaluations of a situation based on sound reasoning. Still the hard-hitting response by the Punjab chief minister didnt quite elaborate on how the federal ministers remarks could be interpreted as an attempt at violating the ideal inter-provincial harmony that exists at this moment.

Mr Rehman Malik came up with numbers that according to him proved the concentration of a bunch of militants in southern Punjab area; he spoke of a resurgence of old jihadi groups and of the need of action against them. This was the gist of his observations and while it could indeed have reflected the centres distrust of Punjab on militancy, the anti-harmony, explosive substance that the chief minister was able to detect in these remarks was not visible to those with lesser insight.

Mr Sharif said: No strategy can succeed in dealing with the menace of terrorism without a joint struggle by the entire nation. True. How do the various units that make up this nation go about the task then? By striving to clean up their respective territories, perhaps?

'Obama sanctions US surge in global secret war'

Behind his public rhetoric of global engagement and diplomacy, United States President Barack Obama has secretly sanctioned the deployment of US special forces to 75 countries as part of a largely 'secret war' against Al Qaeda and other radical groups, a news report said on Sunday.

It has come to light that Obama, who has been recognised for giving greater role to multilateral diplomacy unlike the previous Bush administration, has approved a huge increase in the number of US special forces carrying out search-and-destroy missions against radical groups, particularly Al Qaeda.

American troops are now operating in 75 countries compared with about 60 at the beginning of last year, the Washington Post reported on Sunday.

In the past 18 months he has ordered a big expansion in Yemen and the Horn of Africa known areas of strong Qaeda activity and elsewhere in the Middle East, central Asia and Africa.

Obama has asked for a 5.7 percent increase in the Special Operations budget for fiscal 2011, for a total of $ 6.3 billion, plus an additional $ 3.5 billion in 2010 contingency funding, the report said.

It said Obama has also approved pre-emptive special forces strikes to disrupt terror plots, and has given the units powers and authority that was not granted by George Bush when he occupied the White House.

Commanders are now planning greater use of these special forces for preemptive or retaliatory strikes around the globe when a plot has been identified, or after an attack linked to a specific group.

Former Bush officials, still smarting from accusations that their administration overextended the president's authority to conduct lethal activities around the world at will, have asked similar questions.

"While they seem to be expanding their operations both in terms of extraterritoriality and aggressiveness, they are contracting the legal authority upon which those expanding actions are based," John B Bellinger III, a senior legal adviser in both of Bush's administrations, was quoted as saying by the daily.

The surge in Special Operations deployments, along with intensified CIA drone attacks in western Pakistan, is the other side of the national security doctrine of global engagement and domestic values President Obama released last week.

Of about 13,000 US special forces deployed overseas, about 9,000 are evenly divided between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The United States "will not merely respond after the fact" of a terrorist attack but will "take the fight to Al Qaeda and its extremist affiliates whether they plot and train in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and beyond," John O Brennan, the White House counterterrorism director, said last week.

"Eighty percent of our investment is now in resolving current conflicts, not in building capabilities with partners to avoid future ones," another official said.

A key advantage of using "secret" forces is that their operations are rarely discussed in public.

A top UN human rights official has questioned the jurisdiction under international law to conduct such raids, particularly when they kill innocent civilians.

In a report to the UN Human Rights Council, Philip Alston, the special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, warned that the "prolific" use of targeted killings, mainly by unmanned US aircraft, was setting a damaging example that other countries would follow.

However, the US State Department has argued that targeted killings abroad are legally justified, citing the principle of self-defence under international law.

Defence Secretary Robert Gates insisted US lawmakers are kept fully informed about CIA operations abroad, including widely reported drone bombing raids on militants in Pakistan.

"I have no doubt whatsoever that the intelligence committees in the United States Congress are fully informed of the activities the CIA is carrying out," said Gates, a former director of the spy agency, at the Shangri-La security conference in Singapore on Saturday.

PML-N mulls possible south Punjab operation

sharif-brothers.jpg

Nawaz Sharif discussed possible south Punjab operation, law and order with party leaders.

PML-N senior leadership discussed the possibility of an operation in south Punjab during a meeting at Raiwind on Monday.

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif rallied party leaders from across the country including chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to discuss rising terrorist incidents in Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif briefed the meeting in detail on the worsening law and order situation in the aftermath of Ahmediyah mosques attacks.

He told the meeting that in recent incidents several leads were found that point to southern Punjab connection of terrorism.

Addressing the meeting Nawaz Sharif said that the situation demands a review of the provinces security policy and stricter vigilance of extremist strongholds in Punjab.

While reviewing the budget for the fiscal year 2010-11 Nawaz termed it an anti-poor document.

On a serious note, there is no doubt that militancy should be checked no matter where it is. Anywhere in Pakistan, where ever militancy is present, there should be an operation but not a ''proper'' Military operation. The way the current operations are being launched, its creating more and more problems by every passing day. An Operation should be launched like the Operation in Karachi. A ''proper'' Military Operation is not the solution however it doesnt mean that there should be no operation at all. An operation similar to the one conducted in Karachi is needed to bring peace in FATA and sort out the hardcore militants. In Karachi, the operation was led by the Police aided by Rangers (Paramilitary organization) and Intelligence agencies played a major role, hence peace was established. Similarly, in FATA an operation should be conducted led by police and mainly the Frontier Constabulary ( A Paramilitary law enforcement agency) , aided by the FC (Frontier Corps, again paramilitary) and intelligence agencies again should play a major role. All the hardcore militants should be brought to justice and peace should be restored. This should also be done in Punjab where ever and whenever it is required. In Panjab again, Panjab Police and Rangers are available with strong intelligence netwrok to sort this out. And such an operation should be launched immediatley to sort out the militant network.

One thing is clear ... you don't agree with my point of view. OK ... point noted but I don't think not agreeing with someone can be a bone of contention. I am reading newspapers on daily basis and yes, they are affecting my health energetically. And I agree with your last conviction ... I think we all do. We all need help big time ... but the point is if we wanna converse like gentlemen or be queasy and irritating like quarrelsome women ... your choice, I won't disappoint you.

I think that no one is talking about it anymore. Rehman Malik told Nawaz Sharif to support them on 18th amendment and the USA is backing this otherwise they would destabilize Punjab by talking about War on terror shit. So Nawaz Sharif is now supporting 18th amendment. This is the reality of War on Terror.
