Journalism, as much as I learnt, is a profession to reports the events rather than judging their truthfulness. Unfortunately the importance of media in creating perception has increased many folds in the last decade or so. Perception being a new reality, though disengaged from the truth, has tremendous impact on policy making for nation states.
This new phenomenon of "perception building" has created a new breed of so called journalists named "anchors", these socio-political and religious opinion builders might have nothing to do with actual journalism but they are a very effective tool in dragging opinion in one direction or the other. Most of the times these are politically motivated people on the pay rolls of a third party, glib and spin masters they serve the purpose of their employers without any conscience .
Truth is an endangered commodity, it has become virtually impossible for a common man to find the truth, however an educated person without strong political motivation or sheer bias still has ability to discern from sheer propaganda and ground realities. Another factor that adds to the divisions among the masses is the increasing number of paid bloggers who take "contents" from the expert media managers and reproduce it on the social media as a truth.
