Do not judge by this picture the female participants of MQM on April 10, 2001 gathering at Lahore. These are (those) females who were paid to attend this gathering.
MQM (Urdu speaking) activists who came from Karachi were (elegant ladies) staying with their known & realities since past 3-4 days. Family living in my lane (right opposite) accommodated 3 such AH supporters working in Pakistan Telephone & Telegraphs Karachi were free, frank & moderate.
They were on a fully paid tour and preferred to visit Historic places in Lahore and moving around in social circles than attending the congregation for which they were sent (Lahore) as they knew ahead what speeches were to be made. there. Their support towards MQM is UN shattered and they bluntly told that each of them possesses 5-7 NADRA CNIC for casting their Ballots in different constituencies of Karachi. No guilt was there on their faces as only naive and stupid will think of such responsibilities as non ethical.
Well, to some extent Im equally convinced that there is nothing wrong in doing "What Romans do -when they are in Rome"! One should see the reality on ground and avoid blaming others on the basis of gender, cast or creed!
It's always fair to meet and obey the community needs / demands. Hope against hope, that those even having a shallow approach will agree to this logical approach. Being a non political person I feel no harm in accommodating such harmless assertions and belief.

متحدہ قومی موومنٹ یعنی ایم کیو ایم نے لاہور میں ایک جلسہ عام کا انقعاد کر کے پنجاب کی سیاست میں خود متعارف کروانے کی ایک اور کوشش کی ہے ۔
ایم کیو ایم کا یہ جلسہ لاہور میں قذافی سٹیڈیم کے قریب فٹبال گروانڈ میں ہوا جس سے جماعت کے قائد الطاف حسین نے خطاب کیا ۔
ایم کیو ایم کی قیادت لاہور میں جلسہ کے لیے ایک ماہ سے اس تیاریوں میں مصروف تھیں اور اس مقصد کے لیے دیگر سیاسی جماعتوں کو بھی جلسے میں شرکت کی دعوت دی گئی ۔
پنجاب میں حکمران جماعت نے ایم کیو ایم کو قذافی سٹیڈیم کے باہر جلسہ عام کرنے کی اجازت دی تھی تاہم جلسے سے ایک رات قبل یہ جگہ تبدیل کردی گئی اور ایم کیو ایم کی قیادت نے بھی اس پر اعتراض نہیں کیا۔
جلسے میں شرکت کے لیے زیادہ تر لوگ پنجاب کے مختلف اضلاع سے آئے تھے جبکہ شکل و صورت اور حلیہ کے اعتبار سے ایسے لوگ بھی جلسہ گاہ کے اندر دکھائی دیئے جن کا تعلق پنجاب سے نہیں تھا۔
ایم کیو ایم نے لاہور میں اپنے جلسے کے لیے دیگر سیاسی جماعتوں کو بھی اس میں شرکت کرنے کی دعوت دی تھی لیکن اس جلسے میں مسلم لیگ قاف کے رہنما چودھری ظہیر الدین خان اور سابق فوجی صدر جنرل پرویز مشرف کی جماعت آل پاکستان مسلم لیگ کے عہدیداروں کے علاوہ کسی سیاسی جماعت کے عہدیدار نے شرکت نہیں کی ۔
ایم کیو ایم کے قائد الطاف حسین نے جلسے کے شرکا سے ٹیلی فونک خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ بعض لوگوں کا کہنا تھا کہ ایم کیو ایم کو پنجاب میں اپنی جگہ بنانے میں وقت لگے گا لیکن بقول ان کے ایم کیو ایم پنجاب میں چھاگئی ہے ۔
ایم کیو ایم کئی برسوں سے جنوبی پنجاب کے علاقوں ملتان اور بہاولپور میں اردو بولنے والی مہاجر آبادی میں سرگرم ہے اور اب گزشتہ چند برسوں سے لاہور میں تنظیم سازی کے لیے کام کررہی ہے ۔
تیرہ اگست سنہ دوہزار چھ میں بھی ایم کیو ایم نے لاہور میں مینار پاکستان میں ایک جلسہ کیا تھا جبکہ گزشتہ برس اپریل میں پنجاب کے تین مختلف شہروں لاہور ، راولپنڈی اور ملتان میں بیک الطاف حسین میں ٹیلی فونک خطاب کیا تھا ۔
ایم کیو ایم کے لاہور میں جلسے کے بارے میں سیاسی مبصر ڈاکٹر حسن عکسری رضوی کہتے ہیں کہ یہ جلسہ ایم کیو ایم کی خود کو دوبارہ سے متعارف کروانے کی کوشش کی ہے تاہم بقول ان کے ہجوم کے اعتبار سے یہ ایک درمیانہ جلسہ تھا ۔
ان کا کہنا ہے کہ ایم کیو ایم ایک جلسے کرنے میں تو کامیاب رہی ہے لیکن یہ جلسہ کوئی ریکارڈر برینگ جلسہ نہیں تھا ۔
ڈاکٹر حسن عکسری کے مطابق ایم کیو ایم کے قاید نے اپنے خطاب میں جو باتیں کی ہیں وہ کوئی نئی نہیں ہیں اور ان کے بقول تمام سیاسی جماعتیں کی طرف سے اس طرح کی باتیں کہیں جاتیں ہیں ۔
ان کا یہ کہنا ہے کہ خطاب میں اس طریقہ کار کا تذکرہ نہیں کیا جس کے ذریعے مقاصد حاصل کیے جاسکیں ۔
ڈاکٹر حسن عکسری رضوی کا یہ بھی کہنا ہے کہ ایم کیو ایک ناراض ووٹرز کو اپنے ساتھ ملانے کی کوشش کریں گے تاہم پنجاب میں مسلم لیگ نون، پیپلز پارٹی اور مسلم لیگ قاف کی موجودگی میں ایم کیو ایم ایک موثر جماعت کے طور پر سامنے آتی دکھائی نہیں دے رہی ۔
ادھر ایم کیو ایم نے لاہور میں ہونے والے جلسے کو ایک کامیابی قرار دیا ہے جبکہ پنجاب میں حکمران جماعت مسلم لیگ نون کا کہنا ہے کہ ایم کیو ایم کا جلسہ ناکام رہا ہے ۔

Jhoot ki bhi intha hoti hai, kabhi shikast ko tasleem kar lena chahiyae. Kon say half million people thay, kaya ghar main baithay loogoon ko bhi count kar rahay hoo in half million main. Before their spot was Qadaffi Stadium and then changed to football stadium.
For your kind information that football stadium is very near to Qadaffi stadium hardly 2 or 3 minutes walk from Qadaffi stadium.

ان کا کہنا ہے کہ ایم کیو ایم ایک جلسے کرنے میں تو کامیاب رہی ہے لیکن یہ جلسہ کوئی ریکارڈر برینگ جلسہ نہیں تھا ۔
ڈاکٹر حسن عکسری کے مطابق ایم کیو ایم کے قاید نے اپنے خطاب میں جو باتیں کی ہیں وہ کوئی نئی نہیں ہیں اور ان کے بقول تمام سیاسی جماعتیں کی طرف سے اس طرح کی باتیں کہیں جاتیں ہیں ۔
ان کا یہ کہنا ہے کہ خطاب میں اس طریقہ کار کا تذکرہ نہیں کیا جس کے ذریعے مقاصد حاصل کیے جاسکیں ۔
ڈاکٹر حسن عکسری رضوی کا یہ بھی کہنا ہے کہ ایم کیو ایک ناراض ووٹرز کو اپنے ساتھ ملانے کی کوشش کریں گے تاہم پنجاب میں مسلم لیگ نون، پیپلز پارٹی اور مسلم لیگ قاف کی موجودگی میں ایم کیو ایم ایک موثر جماعت کے طور پر سامنے آتی دکھائی نہیں دے رہی ۔
ادھر ایم کیو ایم نے لاہور میں ہونے والے جلسے کو ایک کامیابی قرار دیا ہے جبکہ پنجاب میں حکمران جماعت مسلم لیگ نون کا کہنا ہے کہ ایم کیو ایم کا جلسہ ناکام رہا ہے ۔

Attempting to break out of its urban Sindh heartland, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held a massive rally at the football ground of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, attended by thousands of its supporters, many of whom had come from different parts of Sindh and Punjab.
The event, billed a public meeting by the party titled Stabilising Pakistan, was the largest event held by the MQM in Punjab and the culmination of several months of organising and preparation, both logistical and political.
The rally was attended by leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q), which sent a 10-member delegation led by the partys parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zahiruddin Khan. Former president Pervez Musharrafs changing the venue may have been political.
They can change the venue but they cannot block our ideas and our workers from gathering, said MQM Deputy Convenor Farooq Sattar.
MQM leader Altaf Hussain addressed the rally via telephone from London. He was particularly keen to dispel a notion that the MQM was an ethnic-based party, focused on the interests of Muhajirs and hostile to other ethnic groups.
In a message that was full of left-wing populism, Altaf laid out the partys 18-point agenda. The MQM leader promised to eradicate the nuisance of feudalism, capitalism and unequal distribution of wealth from the country.
Seeking to burnish the partys liberal credentials, he took aim at several of the most regressive cultural traditions in the country, such as watta satta (where two families arrange marriages between their sons and daughters), karo-kari (honour killing) and marrying women off to the Holy Quran (in order to disinherit them).
The MQM leader also promised to overcome the energy crisis, though he did not make it clear how that would happen.
However, Altaf appeared to also support the partition of Punjab through the creation of new provinces in Bahawalpur and the Seraiki belt, an unpopular position in central and northern Punjab. He did, however, state that the division would only occur after a referendum.
On a similar note, Altaf also called for an end to the military operation in Balochistan and demanded that the military establishment let the issue be resolved politically. He then offered the MQMs services as mediators between the federal government and Baloch insurgents.
The party appeared to be breaking away from its pro-American stance of recent years, when the MQM chief advocated an independent foreign policy and termed the US drone attacks on the tribal regions violation of Pakistani sovereignty.
He also criticised the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a traditional bugbear of the MQM, and said that the country would refuse to accept any loans from the international lender if his party were to come into office. Altaf Hussain also promised to eradicate unemployment while at the same time promising to introduce unemployment insurance in the country.
The MQM leader also promised to introduce a constitutional amendment to make education up to grade 10 mandatory for all citizens, punishable by an unspecified penalty for non-compliance.

LAHORE-While PPP and PML-Q have welcomed MQM in Punjab and have also commented positively on its Sunday’s public gathering, other parties including PML-N, JI and PTI have termed it a ‘flop show’ while expressing reservations about its entry into the province, citing different reasons.
Senior leaders of these rival parties of MQM expressed unanimous opinion about the show when contacted by The Nation.
They viewed that MQM’s rally had exposed the myth of its popularity in Punjab. Senior MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi, on the other hand, claimed that it was successful moot in the heart of Punjab and his party was satisfied with the public response.
PML-N spokesperson Ahsan Iqbal termed MQM public gathering a ‘rental show’, saying that 70 per cent of the participants had come from Karachi and Hyderabad.
He said the event had proved that all parties had the freedom to carry out political activities in Punjab unlike Karachi where the situation was just the opposite.
He questioned how a party which worked in cohesion with feudals in the past 30 years could end feudalism.
Senior PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the disappointingly thin attendance in the so-called public meeting of MQM had exposed tall claims of its popularity and the London-brand revolution of Altaf Hussain died its own death in the football ground of Gaddafi Stadium.
He alleged that despite extorting millions of rupees from the people of Karachi in the name of public meeting in Lahore, MQM failed to make any impression.
He said those who talked of the poor stayed in 5-star hotels of Lahore.
Saad said that failure of the public meeting in Lahore was a lesson for MQM that unless target-killings and extortion of money is not stopped in Karachi, MQM will not be welcomed anywhere in the country.
He said that Altaf Hussain who claimed to be a strong opponent of feudalism not only supported the candidature of the biggest feudal of Sindh, Asif Ali Zardari but also voted for him in the Presidential election while PML-N fielded a true representative of the educated middle class of Karachi Justice(Retd) Saeed Zaman Siddique as its Presidential candidate.
Saad Rafique further said that MQM has been in power continuously for the last 18 years and always reached this position with the help of jagirdars and waderas of Sindh.
He said that the meeting at football stadium was a joint show of MQM and Q-League which badly flopped.
Another PML-N leader, Saeed Elahi pointed out that out of 10 million population of Lahore, the MQM could not bring out even a few people.
Central Information Secretary, JI, Anwar Niazi while commenting on the MQM show said that despite hectic media campaign and use of resources, the party failed to put up an impressive show.
He said most of the people had come from Karachi and Hyderabad while local participation was negligible.
He said MQM should first end target killings in Karachi and then concentrate on Punjab.
PTI’s central Secretary Information, Omar Sarfraz Cheema said that despite the fact that MQM started its political activities in Punjab in 2006, it has failed to make roots in the province as a popular party.
He, however, said that it was democratic right of all parties to organise political gatherings any where in the country to present their programme before the people.
The PPP and PML-Q have already welcomed the MQM in Punjab. Central Secretary Information, PMLQ, Kamil Agha said that it was a good effort by MQM to change its regional character and to get its national credentials recognised.
