MAKKAH Twenty senior Chinese engineers working on the Al-Mashaer Train project have embraced Islam by pronouncing Shahada. These engineers have now joined 2,000 workers on the project who have become Muslims; there are 6,000 engineers and workers building the transportation system.

A place for prayer has been established at the project.

Okaz/Saudi Gazette attended a lesson given to new Chinese Muslims by Makkahs Cooperative Office for Call and Community Guidances supervisors of the Chinese Community Guidance Division.

Supervisors said they prepared a special program for the 20 engineers, which included an explanation, stating the Shahada, practical teaching and explanation of ablution, teaching Arabic and a speech by a Chinese Muslim scholar who works in Dawah (Call).

Muhanna Al-Harbi, a supervisor at the Chinese Community Call office in Arafat, said he and his colleagues need learning resources to help us teach new Muslims matters of the religion and the Arabic language.

The organization, which hopes to get help in founding a center inside the project, also needs books translated into Chinese and interpreters, he added.

The office serves 400 Iftar meals every day so people can have breakfast in their workplaces and has enabled 550 new Chinese Muslims to perform Haj, he added.

Chinese people love order and honesty, and they have beautiful innate characteristics, as a result of which Islam has spread among them, said Dr. Setr Al-Juaid, the offices Director, who is also a professor at Makkahs Umm Al-Qura University.

As the project is near the office in Al-Sharaye area, we used interpreters to call the Chinese companys workers to embrace Islam. Allah blessed our efforts, despite our lack of resources, he said.

According to Guinness Book of World Records,Islam is the worlds fastest-growing religion by number of conversions each year: Although the religion began in Arabia, by 2002 80% of all believers in Islam lived outside the Arab world. In the period 1990-2000, approximately 12.5 million more people converted to Islam than to Christianity.[SUP][29][/SUP][SUP][not in citation given][/SUP] In 1990, 935 million people were Muslims and this figure had risen to around 1.2 billion by the year 2000, meaning that around this time one in five people were followers of Islam. According to the BBC, a comprehensive American study concluded in 2009 the number stood at 1 in 4 with 60% of Muslims spread all over the Asian continent: A report from an American think-tank has estimated 1.57 billion Muslims populate the world - with 60% in Asia.[SUP][30][/SUP][SUP][31][/SUP] The report was done by the Pew Forum Research Centre.[SUP][31][/SUP] The forum also projected that in 2010 out of the total number of Muslims in the world 62.1% will live in Asia.[SUP][30][/SUP]
However the report also included a statement saying While the global Muslim population is expected to grow at a faster rate than the non-Muslim population, the Muslim population nevertheless is expected to grow at a slower pace in the next two decades than it did in the previous two decades. From 1990 to 2010, the global Muslim population increased at an average annual rate of 2.2%, compared with the projected rate of 1.5% for the period from 2010 to 2030.[SUP][30][/SUP] The report also made reference to the fact that Muslims are estimated to make up 23.4% of the total global population in 2010 (out of a total of 6.9 billion people) and that by 2030 Muslims will represent about 26.4% of the global population (out of a total of 8.9 billion people).[SUP][30][/SUP]
According to the Christian Plain Truth Magazine (issue February 2nd 1984), and republished in a readers digest almanac, states that, between 1934 and 1984 Islam grew by 235%, with Christianity second with 46%.

[h=1]Over 600 Chinese nationals working in Saudi embrace Islam[/h]Riyadh: Over 600 Chinese nationals working on the Haramain Rail project have embraced Islam in a recent ceremony in Makkah.

They are workers of the Chinese Railway Company, which won the multibillion contract for implementing the 450km rail road linking the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah via Jeddah and Rabigh.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Khudhairi, undersecretary at the Makkah Governorate, said that this year's celebration of the Kingdom's National Day coincides with a number of auspicious and historic occasions.

These included launching of the prestigious international research university - King Abdullah University for Science & Technology (KAUST), celebration of Eid Al Fitr and a recent ceremony of Chinese workers pronouncing their Shahada.

Dr. Abdul Aziz, who witnessed the event, described it as a “direct response to critics of the government for contracting Chinese company.''

Among the converts, there are 70 workers who are engaged in the construction of Makkah monorail project, which links the holy city with the holy sites of Mina, Muzdalifa and Arafat.

“Their conversion took place 24 hours after getting books introducing Islam in Chinese language at their worksite at Arafat, which is outside the Haram area,'' he said adding that the credit goes to the Office of the Call and Guidance for Expatriates in Makkah.

Efforts are underway to spread the message of Islam among some 5,000 Chinese nationals working on the Haramain train,'' he said adding that the major problem for the Call and Guidance Office is the lack of enough books on Islam in Chinese language.

It is noteworthy that the first phase of Haramain Rail consisting of 70km has well been started a few months ago. This represents expropriation of land, filling works, construction of bridges and tracks. The project is expected to be operational in 2012.
