Elahi directs for construction of Rs 4b Nullah Lai Express Way

Rawalpindi, Sept.07: (Online): Chief Minister Punjab Ch. Pervai= z Elahi has issued directives for implementing the project of constructio= n of Nullah Lai Express Way to be completed at cost of Rs. 4-bil= lion under which two roads on bank-sides of Lai will be constructed from = I.J. Principal Road Islamabad to Marrir Chowk, Murree Road, Rawalpindi. = The Rawalpindi Environmental Improvement Project (REIP) being funded by A= sian Development Bank and Punjab Government, seven union councils of east= ern part of Rawalpindi has been stared for improvement of sewerage system= , for which a consultative workshop will be arranged during this month fo= r participation of CDR and Union Council Nazims / Naib Nazims & Councilor= s etc. whereas contract for purchase of procurement of machinery for soli= d waste management will be awarded by September 15, 2006 .
The disclosure to this effect was made by City District Nazim Rawalpindi= Raja Javed Ikhlas while presiding 3rd meeting of \"Project Implementation= Review Committee\" (PIRC) of REIP. Naib Zila Nazim Mohammad Afzal Khokhar= , Nazim Rawal Town Sh. Rashid Shafiq, Nazim Pothohar Town Raja Hamid Nawa= z, DG RDA Brig. (r) Pervaiz Mahmood Khan, Project Director REIP Syed Asla= m Ali Sabzwari, MD WASA Noor-ul-Hasan, Osmani & Co Representative Asim Os= mani, Euro Cosultant representative Riaz Akhtar, Director Admn & Finance = Raja Shaukat Mahmood and other concerned officers were present on this oc= casion .
City District Nazim Rawalpindi Raja Javed Ikhlas said that with the cons= truction of roads on bank sides of Nullah Lai, an alternate route to Isla= mabad would be available for Pindi\'ites other than the Murree Road. He sa= id that people of Rawalpindi would be provided all basic facilities throu= gh rapid implementation of Environmental Improvement Project and all prob= lems relating to water supply, sewerage, sanitation and solid waste manag= ement would be controlled and resolved under this mega project. = Project Director PMU & REIP Syed Aslam Ali Sabzwari gave detailed briefin= g on this occasion and disclosed that tender for activation of existing o= verhead reservoir and replacement of old water supply schemes at Saidpur = Road and Asghar Mall Road will be received on September 16, 2006 and same= will be awarded by September 30 to ensure start of work on site by mid o= f October, 2006. He added that bids have already been received for procur= ement of machinery for solid waste management and evaluation report for t= hese bids has also been approved by ADB in last month and contract in thi= s respect is likely to be awarded by September 15 for purchase of five du= mpers, one bulldozer, four FE loaders, one Recovery truck, 112 Skips (Ref= use Collection Bins Containers), six 3-wheeler auto rickshaws, 80 ricksha= w containers (Skip) and 184 Handcarts. REIP Project Director further info= rmed that tenders for construction of public toilets at 16 locations in R= awal Town and six sites in Pothohar Town had already been received and co= ntract for this purpose will be awarded by September 30 after approval of= ADB. The Project Director also gave the progress report about the implem= entation on the decisions taken in the second meeting of PIRC. The meetin= g was informed that Punjab Government has also released funds of Rs.25 cr= ore of its share besides funds Rs.25 crore on behalf of ADB under bridge = financing policy for purchase of land of solid waste management treatment= plant already purposed at Adiala Road, Rawalpindi. Project Director REIP= also disclosed that eight union councils of Pothohar Town have been adde= d in REIP to be funded by Punjab Government besides seven included earlie= r in PC-1 of the project. The meeting deliberated upon various proposals = regarding uplift of environment of Rawalpindi city .
