Still I do believe that our parents are more sincere to us than anyone else(including ourselves) after ALLAH and the decision that they take for us is in our best interest. That is all what I meant by my previous post. I stand by it. :)

I agree to your point that parents want best for their children but how this best interest is judged. There are so many people who's lives have been ruined by their parents false decisions of marriages. Is this best interst based on materialism or their children's happiness. That's a thinking point.

I know people who event left their high profile jobs because they were not happy. Got to think that happiness and peace of mind are important than materalistic benefits or not. So what is important in life? Children's happiness or their materalistic benifit. That's where parents make mistake.

I think expressions are everything. if we are true in love, loyalty and respect then ultimately next person will feel it by our true expressions.
Sometime fake expression can mislead others for a time but at the end reality will show up.

In my previous post, I was speaking in relative terms.... Materialistic approach in itself is disastrous, be it parents or their children. I think alot has to do with the experiences of the individual. It's just that I have seen so many love marriages failed and especially for females it's not that simple. If they go against their parents choice and the marriage doesn't work they have to bear crticism all their life, in Pakistani Culture. Sad but a reality nonetheless. There are always good and bad aspects of everything and you can't ignore them, especially when it comes to the future of two individuals together. It varies from person to person though. :)

It is a complex thing that you and Zoyaa r discussing. It all varies from parent to parents and individual to individual. You are right , sometime our own choice in marriage failed badly. Sometime our parents choice works. it all depends upon the understanding between two.
There is one more side, when things go against someone's will. Like a girl/boy is committed to someone and their parents forced em to marry someone else. Then situation is really drastic. its hard for an individual to accept a change, but somehow they need to compromise.

Now, situation is changing in Pakistan as well. Parents are more concerned about their children's wish. Your last line is very true .:)
