CM Punjab admits he's answerable for killings of 8 civilians 2014-06-17 20:23:57

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow over deaths of protesting Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in Lahore on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said he has directed to conduct judicial inquiry into the killings of PAT workers. He said the commission will look into every aspect of the incident and justice to the victims will be ensured. He also sympathized with the Chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri over the incident. “Those responsible for the killings will be brought to justice,” he said. The Chief Minister stated that he has never ever done politics of bullets and sticks during his entire political career. “If judicial commission holds me responsible, I will step down without any delay,” CM Punjab said. He said the commission will be requested to probe the matter on daily basis, adding that he will not sit idle till all facts are unearthed by the commission. Shahbaz Sharif said all responsible persons involved in this matter will be duly punished.

<font size="7">Chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Tahirul Qadri on Tuesday said First Information Report (F.I.R) will be filed against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for the deaths of his supporters. Addressing a press conference via video link from Toronto, Tahirul Qadri said that eight PAT workers have been martyred and 83 have been injured due to straight fire from the police. “I congratulate the people who fought with such peace regardless of how horribly they were treated,” he said. Canada-based Pakistani scholar Qadri said the purpose of this ‘state terrorism’ was to avenge his support for ISI and Pak Army. He said chaos was created within the nation to distract the attention from Pak Army's Zarb-e-Azb operation in North Waziristan.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday demanded Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to resign over killings of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in Lahore, saying that people had to face merciless violence. He said that the rulers take democracy for granted, Dunya News reported. Addressing press conference, Khan said that what happened today isn’t the first incident of its kind, adding that people have been killed mercilessly multiple times before. He said that Sharif brothers always misused the Punjab police, claiming that Punjab police had a role in 2013 election rigging as well. Khan announced that PTI will hold a rally in Bahawalpur on June 27. He said that PAT had installed barriers as per the decision of high court. “Don’t they have barriers outside Sharif family’s residence in Raiwind?” he asked. He said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) does such extra-democratic acts whenever it comes into power. PTI chief said that Shahbaz Sharif should immediately resign and that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Inspector General (IG) should be sacked and sent to jail immediately. Khan said that the purpose of today’s violence on PAT workers was to scare them off, adding that it has been proven in one year that Nawaz Sharif is not a leader.
