Flood victims chant 'Go Nawaz Go' slogans as Punjab CM visits Bhawana tehsil
BHAWANA: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited flood victims in Bhawana tehsil on Thursday, Express News reported.
The provincial chief minister announced an additional Rs55,000 for those who had lost their homes during the recent floods and Rs40,000 for those who suffered damages to their homes. However, after deducting the first installment, they will be receiving Rs15,000.
The chief minister reaffirmed that he would not rest until all flood victims had received all their relief funds and until they were settled and had roofs over their heads.
“We are doing all of this for our people. Throughout Pakistan’s history there have been floods,” said Shahbaz, while rhetorically asking residents of Bhawana if any other government had performed better than the PML-N government when it came helping flood victims.
However, it seems not everyone in Bhawana shared the chief minister’s views on the current government. As Shahbaz made way for his departure, thousands gathered around his car and began chanting ‘Go Nawaz Go’ slogans.

Attempts were even made to stop his car as throngs of flood victims held up their identity cards to catch the chief minister’s attention.
“Only one bank is cashing our cheques and the money is not enough,” said one flood victim. Others complained that no efforts were being made to fix their homes, while some made allegations of nepotism against the government.
“Those who weren’t as needy as some of us were being given priority with the disbursements of funds and relief material,” said a flood victim.
“The weather is changing and it is getting colder and we have nowhere to go,” said one flood victim in a tone filled with despair.
